To "mop up" the remaining Japanese possessions in the Pacific, the way to go is to conquer Formosa and Thailand. After that, the Japanese are completely conquered and the Allies can simply walk into the other objective hexes now controlled by the Japanese. Formosa is poorly defended and if that's the case with Bangkok too, next turn it's V-Day in the Pacific...

Things should take an interesting turn in the Balkans quite soon...

I promise you that I've completed the next turn before I read your post but that's exactly the direction the Western Allies went this turn in the Pacific with successful amphibious invasions of Formosa and Siam (i.e., Thailand).

I was just noting that both sides seemed to have overlooked the cleverly hidden coup cell the game designer placed in a certain Balkan country, still neutral in this game...I know what Winston would do...

Yes they are. Do I need to dig through the rules to see what conditions would activate Yugoslavia or Greece? Or might someone more knowledgeable with the game, say someone who learned it playing with paper and cardboard, fill me in? [8D]

Turn 28. Mar/Apr 1944. Weather. Actions.

The allies won the initiative again, elected to go first, got favorable weather rolls and was making significant progress only to see this turn cut short at the end of the allies' last impulse with a roll of 1 against a 10% chance of ending. And like last turn the allies moved both first and last, reducing their chance to again move first in the next turn. Though, they would dearly love to move first and effectively achieve a double-move. But that's next turn and I'm very much getting ahead of myself as I haven't even summarized what happened this turn.

Turn 28. Mar/Apr 1944. Axis Oil. Or Allied Targeting of Axis Oil.

The allies again this turn made it a priority to target axis oil through strategic bombing. The allies did have some success, though not at the level of last turn where all axis oil resources for the turn were destroyed. This turn, the allies managed to destroy 3 of 7 German oil resources and the USA managed to destroy 1 of 2 "saved" Italian oil points in Triesta.

The short turn frustrated allied planners as they really wanted one more impulse to continue targeting and reducing axis oil. But, this is war and things don't always go your way. It's still frustrating though for the allied player. However, the German player is relieved to have 4 precious oil points for reorganization.

Turn 28. Mar/Apr 1944. Euro-Axis. Use Oil.

Germany used their 4 available oil points to reorganize all their HQ units and their fighters. They were still 4.7 oil points short of being able to reorganize all of their units. To help with this oil shortage the German player, last turn and this, paid for two o-chits (one each turn), that when available will be used to reorganized all their HQ units, which in themselves will be used before the o-chit is played to organize other German ground units (e.g., mech, mot, armor).

The lost of 1 of 2 saved Italian oil points was serious for the Italians. With only 1 saved oil point and with no prospect of getting any more, the Italians could only use 0.45 or less oil points for reorganization. Also, the 1 remaining saved oil point will likely be a high priority target for allied strategic bombers and may very well be destroyed next turn, leaving the Italians will no oil for reorganization.

If the CW has four corps in any one country adjacent to Yugoslavia, it may align Yugoslavia during an Allied DOW step.
If France has four corps in any one country adjacent to Yugoslavia, it may align Yugoslavia during an Allied DOW step.

In this situation, if the CW invades either Italy or Albania with four corps, this would trigger Yugoslav activation. Sicily counts. Divisions and US units don't.

Thanks! As the allied player, I definitely need to make it a priority to clear the axis out of the Italian coast and maintain sole control there.

And how did they do this?

Turn 28. Mar/Apr 1944. Allied #5. Amphibious Landings. Or Land Combat, Southern France.

Initially by rolling well on two amphibious landings in Southern France.

Turn 28. Mar/Apr 1944. Allied #9. Land Combat. Southern France.

And then by using and O-Chit with Eisenhower to double combat factors to expand the allied beachhead and to capture a major port (Marseilles). Note that the 2nd land combat shown here was a combination amphibious landings (CW units) and land attack (USA units).
