I made a joke of the room becoming a museum; my wife informed me I was wrong. Nothing knew in that, but in reality to the room was now a shrine. [:D]

I've lost the war in Thailand as well-- just extricating the Japanese army to Vietnam has been a monumental survival effort. I feel like the Japanese player needs to wear a fireman hat by 1944, as most of your job is putting out fires and simply slowing their spread. It would be nice to get a vicious counterattack in on an unsuspecting Allied player. The Germans were incredibly good at doing that even as late as 1945 against the Russians

That informing I was wrong part sounds very familiar! [:D]

Its much easier to exist as a husband by assuming that your wife is always right!

Turn is away, and should be on a good routine until next Friday & Saturday & Sunday.

Set a few traps again, easy to forget what you are doing when you slow the pace down....I hope I didn't make any major mistakes.[:D]

April 14th, 1944

No night bombing.

Over Honshu, we drop 8 of the 4E beasts, but the Allies bomb several cities splitting my CAP and they are pretty effective. Bases all around Nagoya are hit. Strategic VP climbs past 20K for the Allies.

Our Kamikaze trap in the Kuriles flies into CVE planes and are shot down in mass.[:(]

Over in Malaya, Georges manage to down 8 Airacobras that were on strafing duty and 1 British Liberator.

At Bangkok, in an amazing feat of logistics, the 4th ID actually rails away from Bangkok and is now south of Battambang. The 1st Tank Division has a meeting engagement on the jungle super highway south of Ayuthia, and nobody controls any hex sides.[X(]

The primary defenders of Bangkok are in the open now, heading for Battambang. 4 Divisions, AA. Most artillery and lighter AA is back at Battambang or on the way to Saigon.

I have decided to try and hold the Battambang, the JR road, and the block east of Ayuthia. I think I can hold for a while; I believe I can extract some of the troops - especially the Battambang troops. Any additional time I hold allows the deeper defences more time to dig in and repair, plus I can get more troops into theatre, and retreat more from the perimeter.

This is a dangerous decision, but with no Amphibious threat yet, I think I can delay and I desperately need to delay.

I think if you have the KB left, you can get in a good counter blow.

Bangkok is in its last days as an Empire holding. The economy there is trashed, but the runways are great. What a pain that will be. I will have to count hexes and see what he can reach via heavy bomber.

It is my rear area ports and runways I worry about. I do worry a little about my HI and LI, but so far he has only hit them in Honshu. I do have some fighters at Hong Kong and Manilla and Camh Ran Bay.

Turn is away and I set a few traps in the air.

Just select the Bangkok hex, then use the mouse-over on all the bases you want the range to. No counting required!

That is what I meant. I think the only time I actually counted hexes was for Kamikaze activation, and somebody put up a great graphic making the counting superfluous. [:)]

Well. before Michael granted someone's request and implemented a mouse-over count I manually counted many, many times!

April 15th, 1944

April half over, and I am being bombed by 40+ B29s. Downed 1 today.

Over Honshu, I trade 40 Franks and Georges for 25 Jugs + Spitfires. It is fun watching the J2M3 counter dive. I also bag several F6Fs, a P38 and the other odds and ends. 55 Japanese losses to 49 Allied.

Maebashi is hit hard.

Over in Thailand, Bangkok falls easily, only two static non combat units left. A single tank unit pursues across the river.

Holding the jungle super highway is the 1st Tank Division, and it matches strength against two Allied tank brigades and is handled roughly forcing a retreat. The 1st got absolutely pounded by aerial bombardment.

Most of the Japanese troops are one hex north of the Jungle, on the super highway to Battambang, where we hope to hold. Will be touch and go for a few days to get everyone back.

On the jungle road to the east of Ayuthia the Allies attack again, and lose over 190 AFVs, but 180 combat squads of brave Japanese troopers are disabled. I can reinforce and hold here...but now worry about the southern flank. Can I reinforce in time and dig in or will Allied tanks be running around my rear?

A look at the ineffectiveness of Allied bombing. No losses, but disruption is sky high, allowing the Provisional Tank to lose but 10 tanks in prosecuting an Attack against the 1st Tank Division later in the day.

So, not so ineffective bombing after all.[:)]

Any chance of bombarding Bangkok from the sea? He will soon have most of his air force there...

I do, and I do have plans to try it...although it could be very dangerous.

Turn is away, and running away below Bangkok. I forgot to mention the Allies invaded Uruppa in the Kuriles yesterday continuing their invasions all up and down the Kuriles. They invaded with a tank brigade.

Bought out another 1/3rd of a division from China (IJA 43 squads) and they will head to the Vinh area. More supplies being shipped out, more ships pulling troops back from the perimeter.

I think it's vital that you capitalize on your naval control of the Thai/Vietnamese coast. Any Allied units that wander into a coastal hex should be subjected to bombardment by the heaviest ships you can gather.

Might be worth some risk. He will have to stage at least some of his fighters forward. Unless you built something else up that he has taken over they will have to go to Bangkok! Whats size is Bangkok now?

I my experience naval bombardments of non-base coastal hexes either don't launch or result in very little damage. I think the LCU is mode-knocked, but not sure.
