And no, there's very little (or no) difference in area bombing a country's capital whether it's close to, or far from a front line. It's the objective of the raid that matters.

Leo, as an addendum to yesterday, KGr 100 DOES have special equipment. Its Heinkel 111s has the Knickebein device installed, and they also carry a bigger load of incendiary bombs than normal. Remember that this is for the 1940 campaign; I have no idea what they look like for the 1941 campaign.

Although all Luftwaffe bombers should have the "Knickebein" (it was standard equpement and all crews were trained to use it and were trained to fly at night) and the KG100 should additionaly have the "X-Gerat" as well!

We had a superbe snow moutain last week for...hmmmm, let's say 6 hours. But the south wind had been blowing, and now we are back to "Indian Summer". 22°C today !

In regards to Luftwaffe doctrine, (i.e. outside of any direct intervention by Hitler or Goering), The strategic element allowed attacks on sources of enemy power which included governmental seats as well as centers of industries. While heavy casualties among a civilian population were probable these were deemed as acceptible under the Geneva Convention.

Sorry, but that sounds like the old "We were just following orders" revisionist schtick to me, and lazy scholarship on the part of the author.

I suggest you check out the book before you condemn the author as lazy. Corum's work covers the Luftwaffe's genesis and development from 1918 - 1940, and includes an overview and history of the WWI Ger airforce. He draws heavily on German language archival sources, and his overall bibliography is 23 pages long.
