Well, what did you do as a child?[:D]

For all you ship builders out there. Trumpeter just announced the USS New Orleans CA (1942 fit) in 1/350 scale due to release in January 2008. If you didn't already know, the 1/350 scale Trumpeter USS San Francisco CA is due for release in October.

Did "Mehanotehnika" built those little train sets with rails and few vagons? Green box package if i recall correctly?

All this model kits bring back memories when i was 9,10 yrs old (since i'm 23 now, you couldn't call it a long journey back) when we used to go to Trieste every month or two and a large kid store near Ponterosso (People from Ex-yu will recognise the location in a nick of time [:D]) which was crowded with model kits .... oh boy , ships, planes, tanks. Still got around 30-40 "not so good" assembled kits, mostly Luftwaffe/Kriegsmarine stuff (Stuka, FW190, He-111, Tirpitz, Prinz Eugen, Graf Spee) but also some allies stuff (Ark Royal, PT-117). They all need a good paint job, but hey ... i was 10 yrs old [:D]

Btw, this is a nice model kit / diorama site for all of you Axis fanboys. [8D]

Did "Mehanotehnika" built those little train sets with rails and few vagons? Green box package if i recall correctly?

I still have all of them (in pristine condition)... the 1:48 (I think) scale was called "HO" and I own many locomotives and wagons (all kinds and all manufactures including Mehanotehnika) together with complex remote control for traffic... [:)]

Yes... and mo diorama models are still "alive" (behind glass and dusted off regularly)!

I have aircraft in 1:72 (WWI, WWII), aircraft in 1:48 (WWII, jets) and ships in 1:350 and 1:400!

BTW, the biggest model I have is 1:48 B-29 it's _BIG_! [:D]

After seeing all this stuff, i'm promising myself - as soo as first paycheck arrives, i'll get myself a shiny new aribrush set for model kits and spray the hell out of existing model kits. Then, i'll threat myself with few new ones [:D]

Every model I build myself (models were bought in Croatia - mostly "Heller" that was imported by "Mehanotehnika" and from abroad: Austria, Italy and predominantly USA) - I started at the age of 7 (with help of my father) and made all models up to when I was 18.

I am 38 now.

Why I stopped?

Because I never made transition to airbrush (20 years ago this was almost impossible here) and I painted everything by hand.

My models are OK but not spectacular (due to fact that I didn't use airbrush) and only portion is fully painted (for example ships I left in their original grey plastic).

I will post few pictures when I make them (strangely enough I never photoed them because they sit behind glass anyway and I can see them when I want)... [:)]

I'm trying to get back into it, I used to build 'planes when I was younger.  I managed to pick up a kit for a Bucley DE plus the stuff needed to change it to a RN Captain Class frigate.  Now all I need is a lot of spare time where I'm not going to be distracted [:)]

Oh yes, one weapon system I personally discovered in my latter childhood, after the true thrill of rock throwing at army men had worn off, and that was the discovery of napalm! Yes, you could get a prisoner army man and set him on fire. The trick was to hold this prisoner, who refused to talk, as your napalm terror on the unwilling ant population below. Yes, the plastic melts and falls off the soldier, whilst making a whoosing sound on it's way down. Definitely the coolest backyard weapon I had ever managed given the Flintstonian limitations.

I too, remember the "whoosh" of falling globs of molten, pyroclastic plastic. For anyone who hasn't done it, it is well worth sacrificing a bag of green army men....just don't let your kids see.

My dad showed us once how to make Katyushas out of a cardboard match, a pin and a small swatch of aluminum foil (with a paper clip launcher) it is exceedingly cool. Sometimes you can achieve ranges of up to 15 feet. A "double load" (a second match head cut off and included in the aluminum "combustion chamber")is even more fun, though it is certain to result in more launch pad accidents.

I have been looking for a place to pick up some of these old board games. I've got the two russian front games and Operation Sealion but I didn't pick up the Second front game or fall of france before the makers went out of business.

Where di you pick up some of the titles in the series. ?
