The month of Feb has started I will post the score on Feb 2nd at the bottom.

Currently its Feb 2nd 1942.

The major action is Scott has launched his attack towards Palembang, a convoy of 12 transports has been under attack by martins and TIva's from a long range, with a few hits scored here or there, nothing earth shattering. The CVL's are hanging back but should move in this day as one of his convoys should be close to getting to the port, or the next day. I can't wait for Tiva's to be in torpedo range.

Cagayan has been invaded its my last main stronghold besides Manila it should fall soon.

DD Letriomphant sp? finally sank [:@] it fought for many days flotation ranging from a low of 80 to the final resting spot, it sank sitting at Darwin.

China is pretty quiet is occasional bombards from both sides since Ichang has fallen.

In Burma he is still advancing his divisions towards Moulmein they should arrive soon, they have been on the trail for a while.

Rest of the pacific is waiting for action.

Here is score after Feb 2nd 1942

Feb 3rd brought a surprise as it was not Palembang the target of Scotts invasion force but Singkep!

This brought a relief to the defenders of Palembang, but stress to those at Singkep which is the small island 120 miles south of Singapore.
Due to the high intelligance of the portmaster at Palembang when he saw the Prince of Wales and company sail into the harbor ready to defend this most valuable port, he pointed north. The POW and company quickly headed back out to the proper destination and on Feb 4th delivered a mighty blow to the imperialist cause! Unfortunatly the same day the defenders were overwhelmed by the hoard.

Feb 7th 1942

We are up to Feb 7th and the island of Canton is getting organized, I will have to take care of those children in the jungle soon.
I figured since the last two days are fairly uneventful besides that his CV's showed up again 120 miles east of Singapore, no attacks launched either side. I will update each theatre as each day goes by.

China
In this theatre there have been two main advances from my side in addition to my attempts to move those guerillas in his rear lines, pretty nice those guys. Although he can easily push them aside which he does.

Early in the siege of Hong Kong Scott, I moved into Canton because it was drained of troops that went to Hong Kong, scott quickly reinforced by air transport and ship, in addition he bombed my forces with planes and naval assets till they were so disrupted I withdrew, since then nothing in that area.

At Ichang, I surrounded the forces there brought in the hammer and took Ichang, he has 1 division and 1 bde but they live on and will be difficult to erase as seen below.

Feb 13th and 14th 1942

The KB continued to push under more ships around Canton on the 13th and disappeared on the 14th. I just moved in Search planes so we will have a look around on the 15th.

With the arrival of the KB near Canton I rushed the jungle cleanup and was rewarded with a quick surrender of the two units over 4k prisoners!

Feb 15th Marks the day the Prancing Dragon prances under the Sea!

The first CV battle of the war has occurred and both sides suffer damage it is still touch and go for the American carrier but the CVL Ryujo is no more.

The battle of Luganville started on Feb14th, US intelligance had high suspicion that Japanese transports were in the area but not sure of the target. Several days before two US CV set out the Enterprise and Lexington. They rushed at full speed and ordered an AO Guadalope with DD Cushing to rendovouse near Luganville. It was on the Feb 14th that planes from the Ryujo sank the DD cushing alerting high command of the wherabouts of a small Japanese CV. The two US CV¡¯s hit full speed again and place themselves 120 miles NW of Luganville in the hope of engaging the CV or sinking the transports spotted 60 miles away from Luganville on the 14th.

Dawn found they Ryujo a mere 60 miles to the NW of the US CV¡¯s she was escorted by at by 6 CA¡¯s The US launched the first strike!

CV Enterprise, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage Going to be tough one was a fuel explosion.

The CV Enterprise could no longer handle flight operations and most of her planes were pushed over the side with some moved to the Saratoga, in other words I lost more planes. Whether the Enterprise makes it or not hangs in doubt, she is slow flooded and on fire and the KB is probably only two days away at full speed. If she was Japanese I would write her off, but theres always hope. I was surprised the Kates scored two hits as my fighters did break into thier formation and downed about 7 before they made thier run. I am glad those experiance pilots are no more.

The afternoon strikes either went after the already sunk Ryujo or missed target.

Overall I don¡¯t hold much hope for the Enterprise but even with her loss consider it a fair trade if Nachi and CVL Ryujo both go down. Who knows the Lady Lex could still get more ships!


History Fact
Ryujo­ (Japanese: ýˆóJ, "prancing dragon") was a light aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was laid down by Mitsubishi at Yokohama in 1929, launched in 1931 and commissioned in 1933

On 24 August 1942, Ryujo­, escorted by the cruiser Tone and the destroyers Amatsukaze and Tokitsukaze, launched two strikes on Guadalcanal from a position 161 km (100 mi) north of Tulagi. At 13:57 she was attacked by dive bombers and torpedo bombers from the USS Saratoga, and was hit by several bombs (sources differ as to how many) and one torpedo. The torpedo hit flooded the starboard engine room and Ryujo began to list. At 15:15 the order to abandon ship was given. At 18:00 she capsized and sank. One hundred twenty of the crew were killed. The survivors, including Captain Kato, were taken off by her escorts.

Imperial Japanese forces have captured the British Colony of Singapore. Japanese broke through the defense early in the morning which lead to major push to drive the British, Indian, and Australian troops back to the harbor. After several hours a of heavy fighting, The overall British commander surrender the combined forces of around 30,000.

In other news, Japanese forces have taken control of the Burmese city of Rangoon without contest. Japanese troops found warm fires and empty tea pots. [:'(]

Feb 18th thru 20th.

Yes, Singapore and Rabaul and Balikpapan all fall in the last 3 days, Rabaul was abandoned due to the pathetic defense at Moulmein it would have done no better. The engineers did good damage at Balikpapan but Singapore was taken with no damage.

The cruisers that escorted the Ryujo returned to Efate and took out my AVD which was servicing my search planes.

For those Denver fan boys do not think the Ryujo was no warrented. She sank the CA Houston, CL Adelaide, DD Le Triomphant and countless transports. Her end was needed from the high command!

This is just and update on the Burma situation. Scott has 2 divisions at Meiktlia and 1 tank rgt at Rangoon. I will draw another line at Mandalay, the last line I drew and Moulmein didn't last a day. Lets hope this is stronger as I bomb his advancing forces to try and disrupt his troops.

The night is moonless and the troops huddle together at the edge of the jungle. Looking out across the water and watching has become a nightly activity most nights are spent just watching the waves but there are other nights like tonight. Slowly two submarines rise from the ocean and as the water washes from their sides, men come out and quickly drop rafts into the water. There is a signal from land and the boats head to the shore.

When the rafts touch the beach several groups of men quickly leave the jungle and climb aboard and they head out again. This will be repeated several times until the subs are full.

On board the submarine LCDR Olsen commander of the SS Grayling salutes as LTC Burgess climbs aboard.

Olsen “Welcome aboard Burgess, we have already taken several loads of your men back to Australia, glad you can make it this trip”

Burgess “Thanks commander, we truly appreciate the ride, most of my men were withering away with no supplies in Rabauls jungle.”

Olsen “Not a problem, you know high command places a great need in trying to get every last man out, they even evacuated a French unit that was pushed out of Noumea, got to it with transports just before it could be attacked and captured, and in the Bornea area the transports there have always been picking up units pushed into the jungle, although the Japanese bombers sometimes makes that a costly decision.”

Burgess “Well even though its taking more trips I am much happier traveling under the water, seeing as Rabaul harbor is only 60 miles away. Heard any news of the war?”

Olsen “Well I understand you were able to see the USS Saratoga up close, well it seems just a few days ago the Saratoga and Enterprise surprised the CVL Ryujo and put it under. I understand the Enterprise took two torpedoes but it will take more then that to put the Big E under, aside from that we have been under the last few days but soon enough you will be back in Australia and can begin to reform the Lark Force Battalion”

Historical fact
During March and April 1941, the 2/22nd Battalion (Lark Force) arrived in Rabaul, New Britain, to protect the airfield and seaplane anchorage and to provide an observation post. These different tasks led to separate small defensive localities such that, when the Japanese landed on 23 January 1942, their many times stronger force was able to drive the Australians out of their positions.
The Australians took various escape routes and a substantial number found their way back to Australia. Of those who were captured, at least 141 were executed at the Tol Plantation on 4 February 1942, and more than 1000 died on 1 July 1942 when the Montevideo Maru, on which they were being shipped to Japan, was torpedoed.

John scans the ocean to the east, he spotted smoke early in the morning and it slowly approached. Life as a coast watcher was not glamourous with the heat and mosquitos but here on Buka the Japanese had not landed. He really had not seen any activity but what he finally saw was a Japanese cruiser listing hard over and pouring out smoke. Somewhere this ship had taken a lot of damage and it was probably trying to get to Rabaul and safety. As the hour past and he watched it approach he realized it was not going to make it.

Suddenly the large ship rolled over then the bow raised as it went down stern first.

Not sure of its identification he quickly ran back to his hut and radioed his contact in australia.

Gentleman, I want to keep this a brief update as to the war against the imperialist aggressors. The month of Feb. has been a month of triumphs and tradgedies, I will give a brief recap of each major area.

In the North Pacific the Japanese have landed small units and taken all the islands to Adak we offered no resistance except 3 small vessels that were lost to 4 destroyers in an uneven battle.

In the Central Pacific there was great news as we recaptured Canton from the Japanese unfortunatly the Japanese Carriers showed up some days later and put 1 Destroyer and 17 transports under the waves in less then two days. The Japanese Carriers have not been seen since.

In the South Pacific Luganville was captured but the CV Enterprise and Lexington in the first Carrier battle of the war sank the CVL Ryujo and CA Nachi, The Enterprise recieved 2 torpedo hits and was touch and go, but I can confirm she is now in port and pumping out the excess water in her hull.

In the Phillipines Cagyan and Manila still hold out vs the Japanese but they have once again begun a heavy bombing campaign vs Manila.

Singapore, Balikapapan, Moulmein, Rangoon have all fallen. The Japanese have begun heavy bombing of Palembang and Timor, forcing us to move our airforce back.

With the Capture of Singapore 2 Japanese Divisions are available for operations.

Though the Japanese may hold more territory and have the initiative, there Samurais soon will feel the full might of the Allied powers.
