Halifax 1917, Port Chicago, Mutsu... this sort of stuff happens in war, and not always due to weather. I'm in favor of leaving it in, though Murphy has it in for me so I can expect my number to come up more often!

So was Doolittle's raid, I would rather have more tactical options, then random sinking of ships. A little randomness is good, too much and it's fantasy land!

The difference is that the Doolittle Raid happened only once, while ships have been blowing up with no enemy action involved ever since cannons were introduced to naval warfare. And they've been colliding or running aground even longer than that...

Murphy decided to drop a big 500 lb egg into one of my light cruiser's magazine yesterday...I really wish Murphy would leave me alone. [:@]

The only way you can get him to leave you alone is to stop playing the game all together, and where's the fun in that?

I don't mind it being left in; I just want it appropriately calibrated.

I'm glad it's being left in. From what Erik and Terminus say, it's rare. Probably too rare, but that's OK with me too. :)

Why some over react? We don't know how is it implemented and its frequency and all data from AAR's here we have only one instance.

Good, I think it brings some authenticity to the game. Of course, I will never bring any of my CV's to port.

That just means that at some time in the game one of your CVs will be attacked by a giant 750' octopus and sunk. [:D]

My problem with most war games is too much intelligence (of the military kind), too much direct command control, and not enough of the naturally occurring snafu's, fubars and cluster ducks that plague even the best planned operations. From what I've read AE is moving in the right direction in all of these areas.

Naw, we used a u8 field for octopus length, so the maximum size is 255. But watch out for those 255 ton submarine eating clams.

New Ops loss for that B-29! Snakes on a plane! A deadly tropical snake snakes it's way onto a plane awaiting takeoff and bites the pilot and copilot. Or would that be 255 of them got onboard the plane?

I really like the idea of rare "accidents"...
Even PT 109 was sunk by accident.

On the way to England while carrying the 29th I.D., the Queen Mary neatly sliced a Brit cruiser right in half, completely...Tragic.

(HMS Curacoa)..
