Turn 23b May 9 1941: Bad, Very Bad

Moscow:
Our comrades have not yet learned to fight. Untrained boys with simple rifles are no match for well trained Storm Troopers accompanied by powerful tanks, armor cars, artillery, and bombers. We managed to blow several bridges, and are stopping the retreat long enough to make a stand outside Gomel and Smolensk, but we are hugely overmatched. Stalin is more concerned with scientists (technology) than reinforcements it seems. If they catch us, they kill us!

The JA menace has broken the grip of the Glorious Empire. They crossed the bridges at Sian and Wuhan. Our men are not running, but they’re dieing by the droves. No counterpunches possible. Our BEST defense was our first line, which was well dug in. With that broken, and Sian sure to fall next month, there’s no hope left anywhere in the Empire.

Uboats have begun sinking cargo in the North Atlantic. Great! That’s confined enough space we can find him. DD dispatched, along with a carrier. He’s separated his formations into groups of 2. We found and destroyed 2 of them. How many are left out there?

Alexandria
On a routine scouting mission to find the current strength of his air force, a few DD ran across the remains of his navy. Help was immediately sent, without due consideration. Distances from home and from his air base didn’t work out, so we scattered without engaging. A missed opportunity.
Air strength finally beats his, so we sent out a bombing sortie. With his air cover broken, we’re hoping to be strong enough to make an advance on Bardia.

June 6 1941 Navy Heat, Soviet Bleak

Moscow
Mostly still running away. Going to make a delaying stand outside Smolensk. Moving troops to Saratov to get ready for an expected pincher movement on Stalingrad. Very few forces available to fight, BUT Stalin has finally OK ed an upgrade to our infantry’s equipment, so rifles for all!! It’s really hanging in the balance whether or not we can make it until winter.

[center]July 4, 1941 The Great Pacific Blitzkrieg!![/center]

San Francisco:
On the greatest day in American history, July 4, we lost all communication with the Hawaiian islands!
Nothing, just mute, as if they were ALL gone. Late that night, with fireworks still exploding, our radios were interupted by a woman who sounded Japanese gloating that the Rising Sun Flag is flying over Pearl Harbor!! With a nation in disbelief, FDR orders all soldiers in our measly all volunteer army to report to base, and all sailors in our outdated navy to do the same. Nimitz has the pride of our fleet in San Francisco and wants to head to Pearl, but realizes that if he’s getting no communication from them, they must have been attacked by a vast armada, and 2 modern carriers would not be enough to repulse such a force. We sit and take on fuel. No word from our bases in Manila either.

London:
The last 3 times Gerry has come out to play in the Atlantic, he has had to have a talk with Davey Jones. Seems like he doesn’t want any more of those conversations and has been silent. Churchill is asking FDR to bring the Yanks over the pond to protect us, but FDR is saying they’re not ready yet. Something about being caught with their pants down and no supplies. We hear Stalin is having a tough go of it and would like to give him some relief, but we’ve spent all our resources clearing the seas of the WolfPack Plague, so there’s no help on the horizon.

Alexandria:
Thanks to the Indians, Egyptians, and South Africans the skies over North Africa are finally free of GE fighters and bombers. We begin a slow march towards Bardia: slow because the desert is slow going and the Italians in the way don’t seem to want to leave. But with the Axis navy and air force gone now, we have the upper hand.

Moscow:
Our delaying tactics seem to have mostly worked. After the initial surprise, our losses have been manageable . Everybody has modern rifles except the draftees (conscripts). Alas, the only major cities that have not fallen are Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Astrakahn, and the Siberian cities and factories. Sebastapol is the glaring exception. Surrounded and beleaguered, with just a small garrison, they have held out against a couple of armor divisions. That was just what we needed to get some troops over to the Caucasus to protect the oil fields. Once those go and our winter reserves are exhausted, it will be tough indeed.
