That's a big part of the reason why I'm making this scenario. AE is such a long game that plenty of people will never get the chance to see this late-war stuff.

How important is the Japanese production system to Downfall? If it's irrelevant or nearly so, perhaps I'll give playing the Japs a shot. After all, we Southerners love a lost cause.

Almost nothing to use the subs on is different than no targets at all.  Besides who will pick up those downed pilots?

All the research I've done into the Jap side of things leads me to think that they would have resisted fiercely but briefly on the beach and then everything would have collapsed rapidly afterwards. There were a lot of divisions in the Jap OOB, but very, very few weapons for them, and Japan was starving under the blockade. The IJA was in a very sorry state.

Right, and that's considering US airpower hadn't even started hitting railroads and transportation yet, which they would no doubt have done as a prelude to invasion.

Can't wait to see this: Op Downfall is one of my favorite historical topics. Don't sell the Japanese short: they had a very good plan for ending the war: bleed the Americans dry on the beaches and negotiate a better peace than Unconditional Surrender, with no war-crimes trials and no occupation (essentially, a ceasefire). With all those kamikazes, it would have made Okinawa look a tea-party. And remember that on Okinawa, the US had absolute air superiority, plentiful naval gunfire support at all targets, and they still fought to bitter end. It was supposed to take days and it took months. I don't think we saved anything close to a "million" American lives at Hiroshima, but we certainly saved a million Japanese lives, if you apply the civilian death rates from Okinawa to the southern part of Kyushu.....Keep working, Terminus! I love WITP-AE and can't wait to see the fruit of your labors....

I vote for "A" with a pilot rescue option.

Can't stiff the Silent Service, especially in light of the horrible torpedoes they had to contend with at the beginning of the war. If the results I'm getting are accurate-and I have no reason to doubt it, imagine how naval warfare would have evolved if the torpedoes actually worked at the beginning of the war.

I feel like this is some kind of psychological screening test.

1) I like to comb the tossles on my rugs so they are all lined up straight?

2) I always start assembling the parts to a bicycle before I read the instructions.

3) I like to group my underwear by color.

Ditto. If AE uses submarines for rescuing downed air crews (like WiTP did), this is an argument for having a multitude of submarines for the allied player-because of the air war.
