More bombardment?

That was what I was thinking, Brother Mynok.........More going in next turn.......but must be wary of USN CVs......as mine are out of action for another month....

Nov 21st, 1942............


Another quiet turn....my next bombardment goes in tomorrow............


Zui slipped out of pierside repair....and will in 3 days.....under heavy escort retire to Truk....and then to the HIs as Junyo did.....just want her out of danger....and out of this scenario......

In 25 days I'll make my last move......with the repaired Shokaku and Hiyo......and reinforce MB and Buna..........if, that is, I'm not relieved of command before then.

NOv 22nd 1942..............


My Bombardment group did bombard MB....and Enterprise was hit with one belt armour hit.......I wonder if the group is using HE rather than AP......as non of the hits on the cripples get hurt by these runs.......I also lost 4 DDs to a 8 DD allied SAG.....my 2 BBs and CA/CLs withdrew unhurt...the allies lost 2 DDs........

HE....interesting thought. Send 'em in as Surface Combat this time and see if you can snag his DDs in a bad way. Then go back in with bombardment.

Now that I ponder a bit on it, I don't recall ever using bombard on combat ships in port, just non-combat. HE is of course quite destructive to APs and AKs.

I also lost 4 DDs to a 8 DD allied SAG.....my 2 BBs and CA/CLs withdrew unhurt...the allies lost 2 DDs........

No heavy allied ships and your side still lost 4 DD's to 2?? Where's the "court-martial" command?

Hi Capt...lost 1 to 2 allied in initial contact.......then 3 DDs were shed by the main force due to damage and hunted down by the remaining allied DDs......my CAs and BBs didn't hit a single ship.......alas

I've not been overly impressed with the P-38 as of yet, but my experience is limited.

14" HE probably won't affect his BB, but if you can hit the deck of Enterprise, you'll make some kindling for sure.

Hi Guys......were up to Dec. 20th 1942.....

I've been trying to support my troops at MB who are now outnumbered 700AV to 200........mostly running in Fast Transport.......over the last few turns I've lost 3 DDs to mines at MB........

Speedy ran in a reinforcement group.....and Bettys did tag an Old US BB...with a single torp.......but my air losses were high.......and he landed most of what he came with.....


This turn my Reinforcement group hit MB.....supported by Shokaku/Hiyo and a CVE.......mass Allied LRB hit my TFs.......and Hiyo was hit by two bombs from B-17s......she's not badly hurt but has 7 Major Float....so will have to return to the HI for repair......I had to pull out due to Air losses and all my ships expending their AA ammo.......but have decided to sacrifice TF 32 6 AKs and 2 escorts......in the hope to land the Inf. Reg. on board before they are sunk.......

Hmm. Isn't the pattern of both sides running in reinforcements at heavy cost supposed to be happening on Guadalcanal?[;)]

You're right Capt.........in this scenario.....you have 4(maybe really 3) choices as to where to mirror the Hist. Guad. situation........once chosen it is hard to switch.....I'm still going to make a stab at Tulagi at some point......but don't want my troops at MB to die out.....perhaps I didn't move quickly enough....

At this point....I won't/can't take MB or PM....even if I could land all of my combat troops....and yet I lack the troops to shift a Marine Div. from Lunga.......I suspect Steven knows this.......and he to will look to Tulagi as the only real spot of the 4 that I might enjoy success.....which will mean he is waiting for me.......


We are up to Christmas Day 1942........


The fact that I can't repair Major damage means another 4 CAs have returned to the HIs......lost a CL on fast trans....to SBDs.......TF 32 is no more......but half the Inf.Reg is ashore..........but I will need more at MB to hold the line..............

2nd of January 1943.......


Over the last few turns......Speedys B-17s and B-24s flying from Oz(it seems) have hit R.'s airfields......while he has been unable to close them......It did make me move back all my big ships to Truk.....why I didn't move them all back I don't know because today he hit the Port.......and damaged scores of ships.......a general evac of R.s shipping is now under way......from what I can tell.....he can run in the heavies 2 out of every three turns with impunity..........

Steven has a CV group just south of MB....and I expect him to come 'cripple hunting'.......as my striking power at R. is weak indeed..... he also must be thinking about a raid on Truk.......if he can keep Saratoga and Hornet etc out of harms way......

Yes, the heavies still operate much more frequently than historically. Or perhaps better put, the frequency might be right but the numbers involved are way higher. Weakness of the system I guess. It certainly beats the 250+ you start seeing overhead by late 42 in Witp.

I'm hording my Betty groups. Losing them cripples you in this scenario.

I've been getting some B-17's into the air, but I'm also taking a small beating from Ops losses with them.  

Heavies really can't fly two days out of three but for one - maybe two - cycles. You'll see most of the squadron down for maintenance pretty quickly. You can get a surge in, but that's it.

Maybe he's rotating squadrons to keep up the pressure and fatigue your fighter cover?

After catching up with this AAR, I note something Kurosawa-esque in your character, brother penguin. [:D]

Hi Guys....thanks for the comments.......Onime....I'm a big fan of Kurosawa.......were you thinking 'Dursu Uzala'....the hunter going blind and losing his way.....bit like me groaping around in the dark.

Anyway we are up to Jan 6th 1943.......

Speedy didn't move up to hit R....in fact all has gone quiet....no more LRB raids ....so maybe the fatigue was telling on his airgroups.........

I've sent a lot of my cripples back to the HIs.....as I can't repair them......and am loading to hit Tulagi in 10 days time........I would rather stay back and counter punch....but in this scenario the Japanese are obliged to attack and keep attacking.

We are up to Jan 16th 1943..........


On the 14th Speedy moved North to intercept my Tulagi Invasion force..........(siginit had revealed all, to him that is....that's why he knew there was a Tulagi invasion force).......I wasn't surprised to see his CVs come after me ......Halfway b'tween Truk and Tulagi....so my covering forces were in position.........

In a fierce carrier battle.......Hornet was hit twice by Torps(reported badly damaged)....Saratoga and Boise were both also hit by Torpedoes.(little damage done)............Hiyo was then hit by 3 Bombs......and badly damaged and a CA was hit by a single Torp(also badly damaged).....while my airgroups on the remaining CV/CVL were ok.......my ships lacked any AA Ammo...and I was forced to retire.....

The upside of this is that my TFs were 2 days from Truk.......Hiyo and the CA both survived....and after being patched up will return to the HIs for full repair......but are out of this scenario...his forces are a long way from home....but with Allied Damage control.....I doubt anything will sink....

My forces will regroup at Truk.....and then try again......Thread help us..........

Sorry for my lack of updates.......the game moves on at pace.....and we are nearing the end.....

It's Jan 30th 1942..........IIRC this scenario ends early/mid feb........just as well......as Speedy and I have settled back...like two tired boxers after a hard fight......

6 days ago.....I made my final thrust at Tulagi......as reinforcing MB made little sense due to the 900 av there.......I could not hope to take it......maybe Tulagi was lightly held........so with the 21st MxdBgd...another Inf. Brig. and a tank Reg. I set off......

Shokaku with Ryuho led the way......with a CVE covering the landing forces...along with a SAG........the combat report for that day follows.....

Tulagi is too much for me to take........and I've pulled back.......My Carriers should make Truk.......I'll report damage when they arrive......but this ends any offensive action on my part......

Also over the last 2 weeks......Speedy has Bombed R. 4 days on one day off with his B-17s and 24s........lost many a plane on the ground......and my Troops at MB have been wiped out.........

I've learned a lot in this game.....and will post thoughts when it ends........although I may sve some for the AAR of our GC which will start after the patch......


I think we'll both lick our wounds until the end.....
