Any idea how much was exploited from occupied areas outside of Manchuria? Specifically China? How much was produced in the home islands themselves?
Just imagine what would have happened IF the population of Japan was deprived of its bean soup? I suspect a rebellion of epic scale would have ensued.
Indeed our demented Professor seems in some brief fleeting moment of lucid thought to have actually stumbled across something here!

74,824,040 quintals - 7,482,404 metric tons.
Of this 464,000 metric tons came from Manchuria in 1940...rising to 628,900 tons by 1944.
As an added bonus did you know -
In Japan, the soybean forms the basis of the salty miso paste which in turn is made into bean soup, misoshiru, also known as miso soup. The bean soup, together with rice and pickles, is/was the standard breakfast throughout Japan, and is eaten as part of dinner by millions of Japanese.

Superb food to detoxify yourself. High in minerals and good for the thyroids.
There is speculation that many Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors of the atomic bomb blasts survived for as long as they did because they were heavy consumers of seaweed.
Some say if you're around depleted uranium you should eat foods that detoxify you.
Of course all speculation?

I have asked the good Professor to investigate this, he rambled somewhat incoherently about Umberto Eco, and how he knows what really happened at the Benedictine Abbey. He also repeated the phrase over and over, "Stat rosa pristina nomine, nomina nuda tenemus".
One can only guess what all this means! At any rate I will endeavour to interest the demented Professor in this subject.[;)]

USA, Brazil and Argentina produce over 80% of world soy beans maybe Japan should have increase trade relations for these nations. Rather than attack China witch only produce 9% world soy beans. Especially Argentina was pretty axis minded nation at time of WW2 from there Japan could have bought all soy beans they would ever need. Argentina produces 14% of world soy beans production and a lot more than China. You don’t need PhD to see that this article about soy beans is totally rubbish.

You have it all wrong.
As we know McDonalds alters its menus to better appeal to local tastes. The Japanese wanted their Bic Macs but not with beef. The real reason they invaded the DEI was the only resource that truly could not be found any where else in the world: Komoda Dragon meat. These monster reptiles are found only on Bali and a few islands nearby. The whole oil thing was a ruse to throw off the one force the Japanese new they couldn't defeat: The Sierra Club.
