January 24, 1941 : The conquest of Greece is going to be made more difficult by the British presence, but the Italian navy will be able to help with inshore gunfire support. The Luftwaffe will also participate.

The map is of the south central area, for the Oberst says the goal for 1941 will be the Stalingrad area. Leningrad's fall to us or the Finns seems to be a given.

February 1, 1941 : Leningrad is under constant attack by both Finns and Germans, but has not cracked yet. The Italians have moved fleet elements into the Eastern med to prepare for an assault on the British in Greece.

In South Russia the Soviets zap us.

February 9, 1941 : The Finns could have easily moved into Leningrad, but it had no more production capability, and the burden of its defense would have been great. The Oberst says that the war is young and he suspects the Finns will join the Axis eventually, but I wonder.

The map this week is of Greece.

March 9, 1941 : The answer to the tank corps question is that the too aggressive Soviets attacked with the corps, which missed the chance to pull out to fight another day.

The Oberst wanted a map of the Finnish situation.

April 1, 1941 : Many of our small allies took this chance to begin artillery research, a very long term measure. The government has decided to convert to a war economy, despite the huge expense, another long term measure. This war wil not end if we win Stalingrad this year, and the Oberst says the people will do well to accept this and support the armed forces over the long haul. If we can hold fast we will play the major role in Europe.

Developments in the South.

April 9, 1941 : Germany has launched an airborne operation on Crete to support the Italians. The Italians, in turn, are engaging powerful British forces in the North African desert.

A view of another area of conflict.

(Thanks, Gentlemen, it has played well and the AI is a fun opponent now.)

April 16, 1941 : The Italians are ready to assault in Crete, and have begun to spar a bit with the British who are pulled back from where they were expected.

The Finns face the major challenge of supplies in Russia and remote parts of Finland. If the Soviets bring any power up there the Finns will be backpedaling fast.

Another part of the front.

May 9, 1941 : the presence of a tank corps in front of Mevezhyegorsk has convinced the Finns they are playing with fire, and they begin to retreat on their supply sources. They have left paths for German troops to get at the Soviets on this front.

In North Africa the Italians close on Sidi, which is defended, but not in great strength.

Here is our offensive in the South.

May 16, 1941 : Sidi is proving a tough nut to crack, and the RN is finally making its presence felt with some convoy raiding.

Big fight in Stalingrad.

May 24, 1941 : Significant victories in Russia and Africa. The Oberst says that defeating the Soviet Union as such might be impossible, so we are thinking of a lower intenisty war in the East, but with continuous conflict, and continued pressing for their sources of production. Driving into the oil fields may bring large rewards.

In Africa the control of the Med allows us to think of a campaign against Great Britain there. We contemplate a campaign against Turkey to take the British in their flank.

Please report on the effect of the Qatar Depression terrain. As I understand it, in 1.6 there is supposed to be a serious effectivity loss for units that traverse that terrain.

In my one foray there, I noticed no such loss for the Allied units.
