If I am after a certain model my local model shop guy will order it in for me. He has stacks of catalogues and we sit and go through them ticking off what I want and he adds it to his next order.

Maybe your guy will do the same for yoo with the Stuka.

The kit wasn't the best I have to say...some things were wrong. For example, the two pods at the front (whatever they were) had two little "knobs" each for putting into the underside of the front of the fuselage...but the fuselage did not have any holes for them...so I had to cut off the knobs of plastic. Same for the ariels at the front...no holes for them.

Are you sure the pods are supposed to go there? Maybe there were no holes because they don't go there? They look sort of funny sitting up front like that. [&:]

Looking at the photo, I might have sat them more forward than they were meant to go...but that's purely because I had to guess where they went...I did NOT see any holes for those.

Anyway...glad that first one is out the way...I've been getting a little better with the practice...painting still seems to be an issue (though I'm mostly pleased with the P51) and I'm still considering investing (in the future) in a spray kit because the finish looks alot better I think.

I've got an Academy Stuka next...guy in the shop says Academy are very good kits. I also asked him and he's going to try and get me an He-111. Very looking forward to that one.

Got the kids one each as well for Christmas...Cathryn has a Spitfire Tropical MkIX and Megan has a Corsair...plan on spending nights over Christmas painting and making them.

Met a guy in the shop today who asked "You think kids have the patience for these nowadays" and I said "Sure...if they're introduced to it, they'd love it"...Cathryn already had the one she wanted in her hand! [:D]

I might "revisit" the Me262...I could do alot better.

sometimes the instructions would tell you ahead of time to drill holes for certain attachments, you might want to double check..

Well I did notice that on the P51 I just did...so it's possible I missed it. I wasn't looking for instructions like that to be honest (tbh)...I thought they just came with the holes in them.

Like I said...I think I'll be revisiting that one and doing a better job. I wasn't really happy with my "cop out" on the paint job and I also dropped the landing gear because I did put enogh weight in the nose so it wouldn't stand up properly (though I was struggling to find what to put in the nose that was small enough but had enough weight to it.

Better stick to programming JD you're modeling career is over! [:D][:'(][:D]

JD: Try buying or bumming some bird shot, preferbly lead, hard to find, works great when weighing HO railroad cars. Second best bet fish sinkers.......FWIW

I just remembered another way to add noseweght was to use modelling clay, the non-hardening type and fill a nosecone or propeller spinner up with the stuff.

Very cool mustang Judge! I really like the demarcation lines in the pain job you achieved. Is that the 48th scale Tamiya kit you were talking about building?

I'm really interested - what paints are you using and how did you go about applying the silver color and masking? Getting such a smooth yellow is no easy feat either if applied with a brush.

Wouldn't mind seeing a closer pic of the pilot too!

Adam. Thx That's the 1:48 scale I was on about yes.

I use Humbrol and Revell paints (not arcrylic, the other sort). Have 3 different brush sizes. Silver was applied using my bigger brush (it's not THAT big!) and I didn't use masking...I do most of the painting with the kit on the mould holds...I'm just very careful when I glue and if some does "seep" out of the joints, I give a slight touch up after it's all together.

As for the pilot...sorry...the canopy is glued in place. I was very impressed with him as well (if I do say so myself)...I used my smallest brush and he needed a couple or 3 coats. If I can easily get the canopy off, I'll take a pic...wish I had beforehand now.

I've found this a very, very relaxing and easy going hobby and very rewarding. I can easily see a difference between my first, second and third models. Definitely progress has been made.

I'm really looking forward to getting into the bigger models...there's a 1:32 Revell Ju88 in the shop at £40...but I know if I come home with that the wife will start questioning this new found hobby.

Looking forward to my Stuka (only 1:72) but apparently Academy are very detailed, though I have found my previous 2 1:72s were quite fiddly for my fat old fingers! If this one doesn't turn out well, I may have to stick to 1:48

I used to build all those 1/32 scale kits when I was a kid... LOL you bring home a JU88 in that scale and your wife will leave you!!!.. which might be a good thing, cause you'll need room for a kit that size!!! [:D]

The Ju88 may have been 1:48 scale...not sure.

I did have a BIG (must've been 1:32 - maybe 1:24 scale??) Stuka once - never did finish it.

The "pods" are external fuel tanks. The back seat in the two place Me-262 took up space previously occupied by fuel. And yes, they are too far forward. They would be as close to the center of gravity as possible. On the '262, they were placed forward of the main landing gear wheel wells.
