My screen name is South African/Rhodesian slang for a National Serviceman. That's all I was. I thought of calling myself rooinek, but that's something of an insult.

by Tomanbeg
A Tomanbeg (toumanbeg is some spellings) was the commander of 10,000 mounted soldiers in the 'Golden Horde'. I have always admired the Great Kahn. The Monguls were the first modern armies in a lot of ways. A list to long to get into here. high points are they invented the system Napoleon used to feed his armies while traveling(because the had the first really big armies. 10,000 mounted horsemen translated into 30 to 40 thousand humans. When 10 tomanbegs got together you had a almost half a million humans moving in the same direction. They were the first to prsctice total war. The first international army( the golden horde was about 12 % mongols, the rest were recruits picked up along the way.

I have always been curious about many names here..it's nice to see an answer here...
I also suggest to many of you to go in Richard the First main page at
Richard main page
There you can also see pictures and other infos !
Well Ruxius , I think it may sound great either in english than in italian...it's meaning is held to Tradition...it's a transposition
of my italian surname Russo in ancient Latin , since I was born in Rome and I am fond on ancient Roman history ...
Historical researches showed it was an appellative given by south italians inhabitants to the Northmen who landed in Sicily and southern italy and means 'red'..that was referred to their
hair color and bird...
it was dialet....
then in italian it became "Rossi"...which means the same...
since it's an appellative for a whole people it's normal Russo & Rossi are the most popular surnames here in Italy
Since the italic somatics are dominant I have brown eyes and hair..but I have some cousins with red hair and very tall...
northmen were in some way Germans ..so I call my self
Italian Soldier
German Discipline !

OKW stands for Ober Kommando der Wehrmacht, i did get the idea use it from Anthony Beevors book Stalingrad, which is one of the best books i've ever have read about battles of Stalingrad
and 73 is of course a year when god blessed (or cursed) a world with a healthy baby boy, that did turn out to be a complete military freak
