are there political borders in DW? are there neutral zones? like the one seperating Federation space from The Romulan border in star trek? Thanks in advance

I asked a similar question in an earlier thread. The short answer is no, there are no borders or neutral zones per se.

However, elliotg has said it's very unlikely that other empires will try to establish a presence -- colony, station, etc. -- inside your territory (unless it's along your "edges", where you don't have a strong presence yet). Whether this will be enough to negate the need for enforced "borders" remains to be seen, but I'm hopeful for now.

I ahve question about bombardment?
1) Do you can exterminate all colony population?
2) How this affected post glass colonization?
My point enough firepower to kill all population should seriusly efect colony habitality.
I mean if you use old nukes this planet should have nuclear winter effect(or something similar).
If you can blow atmospehere from planet then green planet become dead rock.
Using bioweapons should cause strong damage to planet biosphere.
Something like that.

In any situation above it will be need serius cleaning or terraforming to back to prwvius level(if it will be possible in some cause even serius work can bring planet to the start level).

BTW If in game is possible to make colony faster develop by sending dotation(goverment money)?

Wade,

Elliot used some of the extra time while waiting for art to add in bombardment. [8D]

Regards,

- Erik

That's great news. Thanks a lot, guys!

The first thing ill mod is the zoomed out galaxy cloud color for sure :P Puke green/yellow just isnt very realistic nor beautiful.

I like the colors. The green might be peaceful and relaxing like nature(like trees in a forest color)while playing. Maybe that's just me.

Elliot, do the blue and yellow clouds you see on the first screen have any purpose or are they just there for looks?

The system color shows who is considered to own the system. The larger blue circles around my systems are actually showing my long-range sensor detection area.

For example, in the first screen shot on this thread there is a blue "fog" on the strategic/main screen and on the minimap surrounding ONLY the blue civilization systems. Thus, as Gargantou seems to have been asking about, the blue "fog" DOES seem to represent borders... at least for that "blue" empire. There does not seem to be a "fog" color there for other empire colors though.

I, too, am wondering if the blue "fog" is REALLY a border representation?
Also, if it is, then is it only cosmetic borders or if it includes some functions like cultural influences or diplomatic effects?

Erik Rutins mentioned the 'star/system empire color' and the 'sensor detection circle empire color' but he did not mention the blue "fog".

Nice to see that planetary bombardment and extermination are going to be in this one. Otherwise it wouldn't be a 4x space game it would be more like a 3x space game.[:'(]
BTW... the screenshots looks awesome.[:)]

Heh...great point. It actually WOULDN"T be a 4Ex game without the exterminate part. Although, some could argue that invading and conquering planets is a sort of extermination of the enemy civilization. I prefer to refer to that as conquering...not exterminating.

So, that's another reason to have post conquest genocide/exterminate options.

How big of a galaxy is this game based on?

IIRC it's around 4,000 stars and ~15,000 planets.

Close, but not quite: The game info says you can have maps of up to 1400 stars with 50,000 planets, moons, & asteroid fields.

Is this represenative of the upper limits of the engine? Just trying to gauge from the screenshots how big of a galaxy it is. If it is the 4,000\15,000 range looks good.

That makes me happy. A long running game is very possible on such an immense scale.

Yes. I want a game that takes weeks, possibly months to play. I love those types of games...

And with the 'faction-splintering' system you could potentially get a never-ending game, at least via modding, because the moment AIs started becoming truly dominant they'd start getting smaller parts of'em breaking off etc.

Which is pretty good because lets face it, the larger an empire gets the harder it becomes to hold it together!

Exactly, and looking at DW i just imagined a scenario right now....

After a long civil war, the galaxy would lie in ruins, with many small factions from a once larger empire. War and raids are rampant, etc.

This is your long range scanner. Building monitor stations causes the fog to show and you can see enemy ships unless they have stealth tech.
1) Do you can exterminate all colony population?
2) How this affected post glass colonization?

Yep, you can kill them all and it is bad for the environment. The environment will recover slowly over time.
