Roman Turn 11: We outmaneuver Scipio in Latium / Campania but manage only a marginal victory despite good odds.

Great AAR, Chocolino!! [&o]

I think this is the best AAR I´ve read about this game!
Recommended for beginners like me (it could be a very good tutorial, too).

Good work!

Thank you for following the AAR, Joseph. Glad you enjoy it.

Turn 12: Hannibal goes about his business quietly and the Senate in Carthage is tightening the purse strings.

Roman Turn 12: Africanus brings Roman recruits north and Fabius tries his luck at storming Pisa. The Romans are currently the more active combatant.

Turn 13: Hannibal tries to build up strength by playing cards but in the end the Roman reply weakens Pisa considerably. We cannot corner Africanus again.

Roman Turn 13: Where the wily Africanus slips by Hannibal to attack and take Pisa - and with it the defeated Himilco. Africanus is now almost Hannibal's equal at rank 10. This almost overshadows Rome's second invasion of Sicily.

(We have the feeling the game is slipping away here. Next update in 2 or 3 days)

Turn 14: Hannibal decides to move north in an attempt to open up lines of reinforcement (i.e. Genua).

Turn 14: Hannibal takes Genua by storm using a double extended march. Once Genua is free, Hasdrubal and Hanno converge on the city with new units from Spain and Carthage respectively. But both Carthage and Spain are left a bit vulnerable.

Roman Turn 14: The Romans take advantage of Hannibal's absence in the south and east and retake Ancona and Neapolis. Luckily, they have not yet attacked Spain. That is our biggest concern. (Carthage is much harder to take). Without Spain, we will probably fall behind in the VP standings.

Turn 15: Because of an activation order error on my part, we have now two mid-sized armies in Etruria. It would have been preferable to move some units from Hasdrubal to Hannibal. We also move Mottones to Spain so that we have a leader there again. But Carthage cannot spare any more defenders, so Mottones has to travel alone.

Roman Turn 15: The Roman invasion of Spain has started.....Mottones - deserted by most Spanish units - leaves our services.

Roman Turn 15: Two more cities in Italy are retaken by Rome. After the events in Spain, this is - as bad as it is - only 2nd page news. Rome's prospects are surging....

What the AI is good at is dispersing it's forces to important cities which deny them to Carthage and then recombining them in order to go on the offensive.

Yes, Cleveland, sometimes way to good for my taste. (The excellent AI is one of the strong points of the game in my opinion.)

Turn 16: The situation was slipping slowly out of Hannibal's hands during the last turns. But he thinks the Romans have now overextended themselves and left Rome not defended well enough. We try to decide the war by a single all out attack on Rome itself. Admittedly this is a bit of a gamble since even our strong combined force will not automatically win storming a capital city. In my (limited) experience it can go either way at the current force ratio but we should have a fair chance.

Turn 16: The Battle for Rome.

Since it is the culmination point of the campaign (if we fail we can safely resign), I will cover it round by round. The following shows the initial line-up
