Hi!
The new version of the "planning map" will look like this.
The goal is, as much as possible, to resemble the German "Operationskarte" from the war. They were maps that were used to describe the
military situation. So called "Lagekarten" when showing the own- and enemy units. In English; "Situation maps".
Mostly in the scale 1:1 Milj, but other scales ex 1: 300 000 was also used depending on purpose.

This goal means a Germanization of the geographical names. Not even in this sort of maps, however, it was consequently done.
The degree varies with time, political intentions and of course also with type of map.
I have been able to work with original paper maps which simplifies a bit.
A Russian version would be interesting and I just have seen in another post that this is discussed.
Maps are important in these types of games. The War in the East map represents, in my opinion, a new level of realistic looking map that makes it possible
and worthwhile to work with it.
Red dots mean ingame (in the game engine) named hexes. No red dot is moved to another hex. They are just changed to the German naming. ( In a very few cases changed to another town/village name better representing the hex). The black dots are added towns/villages/important railway stations.Sometimes are those adding historical interest Gameplay is of course not changed.
Coastal lines have sometimes been altered towards those in my maps.

Inform me of errors, please. Will upload the playable tga files in a couple of days.

Regards,
Goran

Hi!

The new version of the "planning map" (Operationskarte).
Red dots are original in the game names hexes ( just Germanized or in a few cases
changed to another name better representing the hex).
Black dots are more names added from the German Operationskarten.
Some altered coastlines. No change in gameplay.

Hi!
Have done an OOB- compilation to the Frontline-date map.(not the Planning map)
No guarantee of exactness. Probably some errors. But;
When playing and turning over to the zoom2 frontline map to compare to history
you could get some overview information about (at different times)
which forces that stood against each other from north to south.

GoranW

Hi!
Couldnt resist from taking these screen shots from an AI-AI test. Its just turn 2.
I find them attractive with the colours. German styled units on the " Operationskarte".
Zoom1 level. Even in stacks you can see formation colour.

Goran

Goranw,

Is it possible to get a copy of the excel spreadsheet of the OOB instead of the .jpg?

Hi!
New version of the "planning map-Operationskarte"
Reworked some areas. Villages/towns are a bit differentiated
regarding man power. Factories also a bit differentiated.
More names especially in areas of historic interest.
No change in game play. Added not ingame villages/towns have a black dot.
Tga -files will tomorrow be uploaded to my home-site. www.mannaberg.se
See also jpg -file.

Perfect! Your map has been extremely useful for scenario design. You must have these name and places readily available when you are reading a battle account. Your map answers the mail. Thanks Goran for all the time and effort you have put into this mod--much fruit will come of it as others try there hand at small scenarios. Nice!

Hi!
Its now possible to download the playable tga-files from my home-site.
Personally when playing/testing I use this ( zoom 2) and
the frontline-date map in zoom 4 ( also to download). Then a situation/names could be
compared to historical situation by just changing zoom level.
The way of differentiating the dots could of course also be discussed.
Since this map is German orientated ( from different German Lagekarten- Situation maps)
it would be good to have also a Russian version as discussed elsewhere.
Please inform me about errors.

Hi!
I have adjusted the 40 and 41 tga-files in my "Operationskarte"
Its the Tscherkassy-Korsun area and I use it when studying
bcgames very interesting scenario regarding that area.
First with units and then without. (to make the historical names readable.)
Then its easy to follow any good literature about these happenings and
compare game to history.Downloadable from www.mannaberg.se
( As also the whole "Operationskarte" and the frontline-date map.)

Keep it.
Finally move the newly uploaded file from your desktop into the Art folder.

Hi!
I see that I have been unclear/ wrongly about files and folders.
I try to be more clear.
Download from my home-site www.mannaberg.se the folder Zoom2_nogrid.zip
Rename the original game folder zoom2_nogrid ( in the game its situated in the Art-folder) ,
ex by adding reserve-after the name.
Keep it so you have it and can take back the change.
Unzip the folder you have down loaded from my site into the Art-folder.
Name it Zoom2_nogrid.
Start the game and choose the non-hex version.
( Same procedure but with other names regarding the frontline-date map)
