"And it's One - Two - Three
What're we fightin' for?

Don' ask me I don' give a d**n
Next stop is Vietnam.

And it's Five - Six - Seven
Open up them Pearly Gates.

Wellll, there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! We're all gonna die."

Turn 7 - US Army

"As far as I'm concerned, they don't assemble in squads, they assemble in Cluster-f***s"

They're not everywhere but when you find 'em, they travel in bunches of four or five dozen. And you know how the Japanese are just like Pokeman (tm). 'Gotta kill 'em all!'

A Ranger squad stumbled forward onto one of these CFs and was summarily dispatched. :( Other Rangers moved in and drove the militia back further into the forests with heavy casualties. :)

Another ambitious tanker just about had his 'nads handed to him by a hidden Ka-mi and an Inf AT unit. The Ka-mi was immediately swarmed by Riflemen and dispatched by bazooka while the DD dealt with the lung mines. They are a LOT LOUDER than the ceramic grenades.

The second wave is moving inland, as forward Rangers draw fire from a newly sighted Strongpoint covering the road west of Acorn Hill. Occasional light resistance is slowing progress somewhat.

Contact has been lost with the Riflemen climbing Acorn Hill. Last report had them driving a gun crew out onto the open eastern slopes of Acorn Hill. Ranger BAR fire from the beach finished off the crew.

Rangers moving inland east of Acorn Hill had their LVT popped by another CF. (66% ) The passengers were badly shot up and retreated into a minefield. :(

LSTs and other craft continue to swarm throughout Chiba Bay, taking potshots at Strongpoints and any other targets that present themselves.

Frankly, I'd like to be moving a lot quicker. But, the coastal defences are pretty much whipped and behind me now. Maybe it'll speed up.

Despite being overrun in "The Middle" our troopers are forming pockets of resistance. A bazooka squad kills a Type 4 Chi-To and routs another, before being obliterated by a third. A 75mm howitzer destroys a Type 1 Ho-Ha, and the crew of an abandoned ATG succesfully assaults a Sato. Dive bombers swoop in to strafe other AFV's. The screams of dozens of dieing and wounded Japanese infantry can be heard as the latest salvoes of naval gunfire subside.

Marines storm the heights overlooking the beaches, knocking out a Coastal Gun emplacement, a cave, and a coconut log bunker.

Not looking forward to the house to house fighting in the town in front of us, though.

The Spirit has been taken under fire, and the crew is cowering! A second gun, with 17 kills, Kensai , managed to kill two enemy vessels, one a support craft packing two 17# guns.

I hit a Sherman numerous times to no effect.

Thats all the resistance I can put up. This is almost over. Easy8 and Capt Pixel have put forward a beautiful attack! I have nothing left to stop it though.

I just spotted a mass of Marines on the beach, with LVT's and tanks! That cluster alone can take my forces. I hope Viking is faring better...

Even if the thread doesn't go to the hall of fame, Taisho Goblin's 'Mr. Subliminal' post deserves a spot of it's own.

Turn 8

The US Army presses forward, destroying enemy infantry by the droves. We can see the main road now as we press forward.

Riflemen reach the peak of Acorn Hill, but are driven back over the edge by an unseen cave. So close to the top. :(

LVTs and Rangers press into the forest west of Chiba Bay and encounter a stiff resistance from MANY militia (75+ women and children). The Japs manage to kill one LVT, immobilize another and finish off a wounded Ranger squad.

The Strongpoint at their backs takes massive AA fire and 4.7" guns tunk at it's sides. Finally a Ranger gets a satchel charge in a critical area and blows the strongpoint to smithereens. Scattering crewmen are gunned down by the Rangers and an accompanying LVT(A)4.

The third wave has finally hit the beach. Bodies and discarded equipment lay everywhere. A very disheartening sight to our brave soldiers. But they know why they're here and they're ready to do their duty. :)

We now have to dispatch an inland Strongpoint, two caves and of course, The Spirit of the Samurai . Comin' to getcha! :D

(I'm having trouble with my email service again. I can't send or receive through MSN hotmail. Bear with me, we'll get this problem resolved. )

Thanks Seth!

I think all the posts in this thread (mine are best) make it special (except for Pixel's). If it goes to the Hall someday (it better). I shall truly be happy for us all (except the Allied players). We all (Viking and I) tried hard (ho-hum effort) to make it enjoyable (yawn) for all of our readers (same 5 bored people). Hope you keep reading (don't care), and hope to see you reading (no pictures) the upcoming thread on Kursk. Me (super player) and Orzel (I needed a teammate) are gonna kick the two players ( bunglers) from Finland (frozen wasteland) around a little (whoop them bad).

Goblin- A Goblin thanks Seth (feeds him lip-service);)

It's every man for himself in "The Middle" as orders are given to breakout. Corsairs overflying, strafe swarms of Japanese tanks, but no surviving airborne troopers are spotted.

The Marines on the beach consolidate their position by destroying a So Ki mobile AAA gun and driving back the surviving bunker crews.

We lose more gunboats and support craft, but the strongpoint in front of the Rangers takes a direct hit form a 16" naval gun and the militia rallying around it are scattered.

The Spirit of the Samurai is besieged! Smoke has been dropped all in front of the fortifications, and firing into it produces numerous screams! The Americans are less than 100m away! The crew makes sure they are ready to fight! The gun has 29 kills now.

Kensai kills another enemy ship, with twin 4.7 inch naval guns on board. She rolls over and sinks. Yes! She has 18 kills now.

The militia actually fought some this round. I caused 5 casualties on one hit with spears! Then a ceramic grenade was shoved into an LVT. BOOM!

Elsewhere, the main gun on a Sherman was blown off by one of our tanks. He did it next to the flaming wreck of another Japanese tank who had found the Sherman.:(

Americans! Go home Joe!

"We're on the the Road to Tatayamo!"
- starring -
Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy L'amour (oolala!)
music by Rodgers and Hammerstein

That battleship did a fine job of leveling the strongpoint on the Tatayamo road. By the time the Rangers crossed and the Rifle squads started arriving at the road, there was nothing there to fight. :(

"Patience?!? Durn'it! I wanna kill something!"

Light resistance was encountered at the northwest base of Acorn Hill. That promontory is about to become a boiling cauldron of death. The US Navy is doing their part admirably. :D

The beaches are wall-to-wall with units. Traffic control became a real problem with the third assault wave. "Everybody, Spread Out!"

An LVT(A)4 bought the farm in the battle just west of Chiba Bay.

"I'm tellin' ya, Luke. They say the l'il nippers run away at the sight of a tracked vehicle. They'll run I'm tellin' ya!"

They didn't run. They blew the LVT to smithereens. :(

A gaggle of LSTs swarm throughout Chiba Bay trying to spot a rogue cave and finishing off a crew. The FR Gunboats have received new orders and are steaming away.

All radio contact with the Airborne has been lost. The situation sounded dire at last contact. Hope is beginning to wane that there is still a viable defense in 'The Middle'. :(

A final bit of bad news:

Times Reporter Tom Collins is reported MIA. It is known that he and his M29 Weasel never arrived on the beach. It is suspected that the Weasel was sunk by small arms fire from Li'l Island. Mr. Collins had been a reporter for the Times for fifteen years and participated in most of the major US involved landings since his first in North Africa, Operation Torch. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife and two red-haired sons.
