I really like Tamiya.

A good thing about being an adult is that if you want to spend $30 on model that's the size of your hand, and nobody gives you any grief about it (never take your wife to the hobby store by the way).

I've got the Hornet (among many others) sitting on my shelf right now. No digital cam tho to post a pic though.

Back as a teenager, I enjoyed the 1/400 series by AirFix. Not the quality of Tamiya (don't even know if Tamiya was around back then), but for a teenager, they were reasonably priced, and decent kits. It was also cool that they had British hulls (got sick of building very limited variety by Monogram/Revell). As I recall, I could have fielded half the Atlantic Fleet - PoW, Hood, Ark Royal, Repulse, Suffolk, Birmingham, Graf Spee, Bismark, Scharnhorst, Prinz Eugen. I think my Dad's still got a few of them lined up on his mantel.

I've been a modeler all my life. 

Dragon and more recently Trumpeter from China have been challenging the dominance of Hasegawa and Tamiya in many areas. 

In ships both Dragon and Trumpeter started releasing American ships in 1/700 scale.  Trumpeter also has quite a line of 1/350 American ships too.  I think Dragon's 1/700 ships have more features than Trumpeters (for example the newer Dragon carriers have a complete hanger deck and an option to build with a clear top deck), but both are high in detail and are on par with the best from Japan.

I agree with Bill here. I have several 1/700 scales ships from Dragon and Trumpeter (Hornet, Alabama, North Carolina, Rebuilt Pennsylvania, Lexington CV2 and CV 16 etc.) and find them to be very good kits for the scale. I am mostly into 1/350, but ran out of room to display them, hence the move to the 700 scale. I also do 1/48 aircraft as well, except for the 1/32 SBD I bought from Bill.

I do agree that they provide a lot of inspiration while playing the game.

I drifted away from models many years ago and started collecting high quality die case planes. Its been getting harder and harder to find them anymore so I have been thinking of going back to 1/700. Did some searching, man have the prices gone up [8D]

Do you want a CV-6 Enterprise?  There is a resin conversion of the 1/350 Trumpeter Hornet out there. 

Are you speaking of the one from Nautilus from AAA Hobbies? I have that one and still need to get started on it. Also TomsModelWorks did a resin/photo etch hangar deck set for the Trumpy Hornet. I have one, but I don't think they make them any more.

I'm very surprised Trumpeter didn't release a 1/350 Yorktown CV-5 and Enterprise CV-6 after the CV-8 Hornet kit. 

I think that's because they got hammered on supposedly copying the Blue Navy/Yankee Modelworks resin hull which looks like an esso tanker hull instead of the true hull form that Revell captured in their 1/480 kit. I keep hammering the Dragon third party contacts that I have for a 1/350 Yorktown class with correct hull. Been doing so for 4 years!!! They could make so much money off of it with a Pre-war, 1942 version, and the CV6 upgrade. Oh, well....

I used to have apirations of doing Age of Sail wooden models. But they were just too damned expensive. I did compete a few and they look nice but take up a lot of space and are a pain in the ass to clean the dust off.
Now that I actually have the money I just can't find the motivation to get back into the hobby. And I also have a small house and simply don't have the room.

Age of sail would be my only modeling interest as well. Canned air is the best way to dust small stuff.

I am currently working on a 1/350 USS Arizona.

I'm going all out on this one, with photo-etch and brass barrels for all the guns.

Lots of carving up of plastic on this one...

It all started when I bought a 1/700 San Francisco. The photo-etch was extremely tiny, so I wanted to warm up with a larger model first. I eventually want to build 1/700 US pre-dreads. Somebody (Loose Cannon, I think) makes a USS Long Island, and I may get that one for old sentiment's sake.

Thank you. I am going to weather and finish the paint/decals sometime this week.

The 'Sleeping Dragon' (ドラゴンの睡眠) is Sasha, she is a rescue from the local shelter and is a Siamese mix. She has laid claim to me, and likes to be up on my work table all the time, so I just made her a space that I don't keep anything on so she can curl up and keep either an open eye or in this case a closed eye on me and my work. She also has a similar space on top of my computer case for when I am doing WITP:AE.

Someday I am going to try the super detail work on a 1/350! When my skills are better. Please post pics!

I've got quite a ways to go.

When I get home, I'll see if I can get a pic of one of the 5"/25s.

Building this makes you notice how light the AA defense on this ship was.
