Great Demo. Everything is well polished.
Could you find an agreement with Battlefront so we can purchase both games PCO and CMN with a discount ?
We waited for 10 years a good sequel after CM and now we have 2 games for a release the same month.

There should be a logfile in the LOGs folder. Also, you might have an autosave. If you restart the game and go to the load menu, if you have autosave 0, then try loading it.

Thanks

I'm able to load autosave 0 but there is no crash message in the logfile.

Guys,
I wanted to throw my two cents in on the demo. It is very nice to be on the eastern front once again. The demo is pretty darn slick; I really enjoyed it.
The tutorial I remembered from when Winter Storm first came out. I enjoyed playing it, and had the printed copy of the tutorial next to me for reference. I had the game crash on me too, but I went back to Load a Game, and reloaded the orders for the turn that crashed. Then I just played on and there were no more problems. Very nice. I will still have to get used to the interface, having been steeped in the 60 second turn for CMAK and CMBB. I did appreciate the ability to turn my facing once I'd spotted an enemy. I think this saved me a few times, as the Russian AT guns are pretty deadly from the flank.

Now on to Novyy Rizadey. The breifing said it was fictional but would probably feel semi-historical. Well, that was exactly how it felt. It brought back all those feelings of desperation I had when playing great scenarios in CMBB. Oh Yeah, this is a good one.

I won't spoil it for those who have yet to play it. There is so much to enjoy in this one. Just looking at the force you command as the German will give you some idea of all the crazy stuff you'll encounter. I have a feeling that you guys deliberately included that troop mix so you could show off some of the more interesting graphics and eye-candy. I wanted to say that it worked, oh yes, did it ever.

As to the grass and undergrowth, I knew that would be important, and it really added volumes to the immersion factor. You actually felt that your infantry had a chance when trying to stalk the Russian tanks. There were so many dramatic moments where I was holding my breath waiting for the lads to unleash their panzerfaust as the Russian tank crashed through the trees close by, or watching as the tank commander was swinging his gun to bear on the advancing Soviet wave of armor. It was crazy keeping track of all the action that was taking place in the treeline and underbrush. I found the log of incidents extremely helpful for going back and seeing how this tank was destroyed or what happened to that squad.

I really didn't have too many worries that this would be well worth the wait. I am very familiar with many of the names of the individuals who have worked so hard to put this together, having seen their work and mods for other wargames. As scenarios go, I think you all picked one of the very best to highlight the really good looking vehicles, the excellent map and graphics, and expecially the desperate nature of combat on the eastern front. All those old feelings came flooding back with a vengeance as a wave of Soviet armor came rolling towards my meagre band of weary Landsers, trying desperately to stem the tide.

I say Congratulations to You All! [&o] This is an amazing job you have all put together. You should be very proud of your efforts. Now, on to the full version.

Thanks for your hard work and effort. They are very appreciated.

OK, thanks. if you can recall what it was you were doing when it crashed, please let us know in another thread. Some of these things are pretty hard for the programmer to hunt down.

Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it Heinrich. even after i've played it multiple times, I still enjoy playing Novy. And strangely enough, I enjoy it from either side.

Thanks for the kind words!

Hi Lützow,

I saw that there was nothing in the log file. If you experience another crash, can you please post your system specs for us and let us know what you were doing right before the crash?

- Erik

I'm really impressed with the way they've done the infantry eliminations. Now it's more immersive than all of them falling down at once like before. The snow falling is a nice added touch. The graphics are exceptional and the grass omg the grass (first thing I turned off ) lol sorry guys but it just slowed down my graphics enjoyment too much. I would have liked to have seen some more units to play with or choices in the scenario to pick from, but, that doesn't take away from the game experience I'm just being greedy. [:)] Those anti-tank guns were tough but I managed to take them out without losing any tanks. It was those anti-tank rifle units that were sneaky as heck. The command control took a little to get used to as I had forgotten how it worked with Kharkov and I didn't want to spoil playing this by having played too much Kharkov before release. I also found the game very intuiative for the most part. I started playing the tutorial without even reading what I should do. The commands are easy enough to understand and it's point and click so that's simple as well.

Because I know I'm going to like this now I am thinking about supporting Matrixgames and go ahead and buy the boxed version (albeit from NWSonline.com) as I really want the box art and the color printed manual. So, I put up a challenge to all who own Kharkov to go ahead and buy this version as well so they can hurry up and deliver the western front version. [:)]

Coming from you that says volumes. Glad you like it. More is definitely on the way with the full release in just a few days.

I did not want to ruin the game by playing the demo long.

I am eagerly waiting the game and I wanted to see if my laptop could run the game well.

I scored a legendary victory in Novyy Rizadey. I've put my Jagdpanzer and infantry on Fire only with good target and bagged a dozen of T-34s and some Su-122. I've played a lot of CM, both the ww 2 series and the modern stuff, but I must say I enjoyed this. Some observations. Vehicles withdraw very slowly, which is a bit of a nuisance when under fire. I like the way vehicles start to burn when hit. It is quite hard to keep track of the infantry, but I guess that is a matter of practice.

I came across a rather strange situation. My HMG team was situated in a house. In front of that house a T-34/85 turned up and began to fire grenade after grenade into it. My HGM team continued to return fire, instead of taking cover or retreating. Personally I thought that looked a bit strange. What I do like a lot is how fast vehicles are turning to take aim. I'm going to enjoy this game, of that I'm certain. Can't wait for the release.

Did you have the SOP option turned on or off?

If it's turned off they will be on SOP level aggressive. At the aggressive SOP setting they will trade fire with God himself and not back up.

If you turn on the SOP option then they will start on standard which I wouldn't expect them to trade shots with a tank.

Good Hunting.

You should definitely try the Demo then. It should give a reasonable idea of how the game will perform on your laptop. But try both scenarios.

Thanks

Not to worry. The demo is the full game. Play it and learn the interface and the controls. The full game is just more of the same with the added scenarios, campaigns and editors.

Good Hunting.

Considering that "the most expensive thing in the world is free time," I have the two previous versions, which I have not played extensively. So the recommendation would be to jump into Ostfront and forget the first two?

Thanks also for giving your free time to this project, MR.

Yes, forget PC:OWS and PC:K and just play PCO.
Thanks also for giving your free time to this project, MR.

You're welcome. It was a long project but I think the end result was worth it.

Good Hunting.
