Should move that one closer to the top of the list...[:D][:D][:D]
Trust me, I've seen them do far worst things in the cockpit than play with a Pocket electronic game![:D]

And the US is not above trying to cram down naval air throats an A/C that was unacceptable, look at the Vigilante. The A-5 was a dream child that went ALL wrong... it was a beautiful looking bird but huge.... and did NOT fit well even on USN big deck carriers.. On the Connie we could only fit two... Hal
True, but carriers seldom carry more than two Recon birds . And as it's original role (End of the world strategic nuke bomber) , how many do you need aboard?
Heh, during the cold war you needed aircraft to do 1 of 2 things:
1. Deliver the world ending ordnance to a target.
2. Shoot down any plane attempting mission #1.

. . . And then there was the A-10 "Warthog," which merely delivered tank-ending ordnance. [:)]

Part of the UK social contract during WWII was the promise that after the war, the sacrifices would be repaid--NHS, nationalisation of a number of industries, etc. That laid the foundation for where the UK is now.
You mean the great 1970's when everything was essentially nationalized and the UK was pretty much a 3rd world country until Maggie saved it from oblivion? [;)]
Just teasing....

Your indictment is out of order. You must resubmit it in 30 days as it is not 2014!

The Empire was broke before the war and had a real challenge on its hands as it accumulated wartime debt. My memory is the last of the debt was paid off in the 70s.
Warspite1
I think it was only about four/five years ago that we paid off the final installment, not the 70's.
You are indeed correct. Last installments made to the US and Canada in 2006. Almost 60 years...
I wonder how long it'll take us to pay off the Chinese for our debt? [:D]

that [:D]

One of my favorite Aircraft of WWII. I have no idea why...maybe because it was a blue collar underdog and a poor design, actually a derivative of the Fairey Battle.

Incidentally, for those of you who are Flightsim fans, you can fly the Fulmar in all it's glory in IL-2 Sturmovik. You'll get a real appreciation of what a dog it was...here are some screens...

IIRC, structurally they are two different situations.
The British war debt was dedicated debt created for a specific purpose. It was direct country to country (or Treasury to Treasury) debt.
The American Treasury notes/bonds are generic issue purchasable by the private sector. Such debt is most commonly not paid off but rolled over in the future at which point in time the effect of inflation has acted as a back door means of reducing the real value of the debt.

i might have to dust off the old joy stick and reload that game. I knew there was a mod out there that allowed the addition of planes that the IL2 people were not going to put in. I loved flying in that game.

Definately a pretty picture , but don't get too attached to the Fulmar. I think we all see what's going to happen in the next couple of minutes![:D]

Indeed, the 109 a long ways from home and involved in gas guzzling maneuvers runs out of gas. [8|]

Steve,
Don't say that about the Fulmar there are a number of FAA aces that scored half or more of thier initial kills in the Fulmar a few even mixing it up with the Me109's or some of the hot rods Italian fighters, let alone some of those bombers.
Just like there is a USCG pilot (Lt. Casey Quinn USCG Aviator) who scored a kill against a NVAF MiG in Vietnam war while flying a C-130, it isn't the plane but the pilot.

With all due respect, great pilots don't let a plane with superior speed and manuevability get on their six!. And Fulmar rear seaters don't have defensive swivel machine guns. If this were a Defiant , I might agree with you, but from the looks of the painting, your pilot (and his backseater) are about to get turned into hamburger. [:D]
