It would help to know what your losses are, but it looks like you are in good shape. You should easily hold Moscow, and he didn't make amazing progress in the South

I'll post losses next turn, I got in a hurry to get the turn back to carnage.

Overall I feel that my army is in good shape, my latest consolidation is going to give me 3 armies to plug in around moscow as needed. Im obviously giving up large patches of the motherland, but I think it is more important in the long run to preserve the army. I truly believe that WitE cannot be decided one way or the other in '41 (barring complete lack of knowledge of how the game plays on one side). '42 is the year where they germans can win outright, and where the russians have a chance to roll back the wehrmacht tide.

End of turn 17 losses ETC
I think I am in great shape Army wise. I have given up a lot of territory but nothing critical ( I dont count Leningrad as critical to the war effort)

Turn 17 Moscow front

Screen taken before I finished all of my moves. I have lost track of most of the Panzers ... I _think_ they might be headed south to create some hurt for me in the snow ...
I am beginning to concentrate all of my cav divisions in preparation for the blizzard offensive. 4 armies are completely off the line in the area of Moscow resting up as well.

In the south and Crimea not much happening , germans doinked attacking out of the Kerch area and it looks like they are going to call it a day down there. Around Stalino, Germans seem to be reorganizing and resting up. I think this is where I will see a winter attack, if there is any.

I don't think you have carpeted your units enough east of Vyazma. You really shouldn't leave such a thin front line. [:D]

It's a weakness of B's play style as you will have noticed from our game ;)

Great shape Mr B - incredibly low losses of men and factories.

Mud coming up so I wanted to get guys off the line without going into static-death mode. Not knowing where a lot of the northern panzers went to is scary for me, even with mud coming up im trying to protect some of my guys.

Plus I need someone to keep up the foxholes!!

Turn 22

First turn of snow, not much going on. Carnage seems to be holding off on any attacks and appears to be going into blizzard mode.
I spend the turn reorganizing the russian army.
Kalinin front is pulled completely off the line, I am going to use it and the Volkhov front when it shows up as my primary attackiing forces.
To that end, each Front will get a pair of beefy shock armies along with 2 or 3 regular armies reinforced with Cav corps.
All armies have 2 or more RR brigades to expedite rail repair in the reconquered areas.

I make a couple of attacks 1 on the nose of the vyazma bulge and the other on the Rumanians in the Crimea that are going to try to hold the line against me.

I think Carnage made a mistake in not chewing on me, especially in the south. But there are still a couple more snow turns where he could do some damage

Turn 25

Blizzard arrives. Surprisingly Carnage has not withdrawn a little to blunt my attacks. I take advantage of that and pound every single hex I can reach from moscow to rostov.
The rivers are not quite frozen solid so there are some quiet spots.
Screenie taken in airbase bomb mode to make the red tide look more menacing ......

Turn 29 Jan 1st, 1942

After the first two turns of trying to hold the line, the Germans have realised they must trade some space for time and avoid getting cut off by my rampaging red army.

They have also started to stack up a little in bigger piles which are much harder to attack successfully.

My boys will chase the germans until mid february and then we will call off the offensive to rest for the snow turn counterattacks.

The screenshot below shows where I am planning my defensive lines in 1942. I have started digging on most of the areas but it will be slow going. Hopefully most of them will be completed by summer. I have sprinkled in fort regions throughout the defensive belts to enable adjacent hexes to build to level three, and I plan on using the rifle/tank brigade hordes that have shown up to dig foxholes in the defensive regions while training up their troops.

I have 3rd and 4th shock armies training up along with 3 armies in the moscow area that are going to rest untill march, at which time they will rotate into the line or counterattack as needed to blunt the german punch.

I need feedback on these defensive plans if anyone feels like commenting.

Looks like a solid Blizzard. Doesn't look like he prepared alot of forts; if you don't have forts, or favorable terrain, you probably need to run.

Looks like you bagged a couple German Divisions too. That's good.

Turn 37

I am in a fun position of having two games that are on the same turn, one as german and one as soviet.

Here is my defense for 42.

20th and 30th armies are going to be getting the first run on corps, as soon as they can be made. Will try to back up a little each turn till I reach the main carpet of resistance.

At that point Carnage is going to have to dig me out hex by hex, I should have enough Counter attack troops to mug exposed panzers, but we will see. there are a lot of counters on the map atm, but they are brittle, with most having not so great morale and EXP.

The blizzard was good for guard harvesting, and it looks like he took a lot of damage, but I'm sure there a lot of panzers out there waiting for the snow to get some of their own back !!!

Being a bit cautious Mr B. I've already rescued the Rumanians from Carnage's grip and I'm very many turns behind you.[:D]
