Yep, troops or air groups that are off map can "transfer" to other connected off map bases. They then appear on the "reinforcement" queue as arriving at that base in x days.
Very, very interesting. Question; say it takes 27 days to go from EC to CT via transport. How much time is saved by transferring from off map base to off map base? Say EC to Aden. This will come in quite handy for the 10th and 14th USAAF.
I'm at 2 February 1943 so it isn't super critical. But I am just plain curious about this new discovery.
I should tell Chickenboy to give you a big huge uncomfortable man hug.

Not sure it saves any time, Schani, but it does free up those ships to do other useful things for a month or two.

well I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person that is "dumb" in relation to this revelation. However I have a further refinement question. It has been said that it takes 27 days to transfer troops via the method of clicking on them and telling them the destination is CT... I assume the same is the same for Air units. My question is at what speed does this equate to? Is it via a "12 knot" vessel or what? Does it pay to use high speed APs or aircraft transports to run important units anyway? The QE for example has a cruise speed of 30+, that's GOT to shave weeks off the whole process. Am I right here???? Hal

You know that is a good question. I try and set 14 to 16+ knot transports directly from EC to CT. 12 knotter's(sic) from GB to CT or Canada and EC to Port Stanely. or from Port Stanely to CT. I use Port Stanely for the fact that I have a choice of CT or Tahiti. Tahiti serves Aukland or sometimes a few South Pacific Islands.

No, shipping stuff via actual ships is indeed quicker if you can spare them - EC-CT is iirc 38? days for abstracted transfers, so contributing the shipping is a time-saver even if it's just a bunch of 10kt cans. Depends how quickly you need whatever you're moving, I suppose...

With the UK producing 5000/day and it being 52 days sailing time for the EURO M class ships I use I need 62 ships in the CS convoys to keep it even.
Also figure it'll take a at least a month or two to get all those ships to Cape Town and started on the runs you'll build up a nice base of supply. Then in Jun 43 you can lower the number of ships since you get the shorter UK to Aden route.
Besides what do you need supply and fuel for in the UK?

This is true as far as it goes, but the bottom line is, no matter how many ships you employ, the UK can only put a maximum of 150k supply per month into CT. And that doesn't get the job done for Oz.
More importantly, UK only produces 15k per month of fuel. Even if you ignore any xAKs needing to be topped off on arrival, that is an eye-dropper compared to what CT needs for further trans-shipment to Perth, so Oz can make its own supply. The EC gives lavish amount of either commodity, supply or fuel. I found that I was using about 2/3 of my xAKs to haul fuel to CT rather than supply in 1942. The ships hauling anything to Perth need fuel at both ends, and Oz needs the fuel to power Sydney, and fund fleet ops to defend the Solomons.
By the time Aden opens you're also geting lots of Independent Supply Convoys stopping there, some with a million supply. I never hauled supply to Aden, except to load up ships I was transferring into that sub-theater permanently. Sent them with an EC load since they were heading there anyway. But past May 1943 you shouldn't ever be short of anything at Aden. I found I needed hulls to get stuff out of Aden to Colombo, and then, later, to get millions of points over to Burma (Rangoon) to send into China and to pay for large scale combat in Indo-China and re-taking Malaysia. In the second half of the war supplies from CONUS become a backwater need in SE Asia. You still need to pump up PH all the way along if you do anything in mid-Pac. I had over 7 million supply in PH at one point, and now in April 1945 it's down to 1.2 million despite steady CS convoys all along. The war moves west and so do the piles.
I'm about to get the huge influx of ETO divisions for use in Downfall, so I need to recall 700-ish transports to the WC from the PI to haul them all forward. It's always something.

Splitting this into its own post to get noticed . . .
The above posts on UK supply made me dig a little bit. I don't read the Map sub-thread Andrew runs, so maybe this was discussed long ago. I'm playing one of the mid-beta versions, and my UK base auto-generates 5000/day supply, and 500/day fuel. It sounds from comments that this is the norm for everyone.
However, looking WAAAAAY back in the patch release notes, to
v1.00.84 – September 9, 2009
• First Official Update
• Base Data Changes
we see this
"8. The daily supply and fuel point levels for the United Kingdom off-map base have both been reduced to 100 points per day, from their previous levels of 5,000 and 500 respectively."
I can't find anywhere else this was re-reversed. Was it never done? Was it changed and I can't find it in a later data patch?

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I'm definately printing this sucker off!
I've totally reevaluated my first turn which has added a few thousand more mouse clicks.
Up until now I'd never understood why Japanese players invaded Perth. From this discussion alone it seems it is a key fulcrum for the allied player

I have a question about how much oil OZ needs? Any suggestions and where do you take it from?

If you go to the Information screen in the bottom right hand corner are two choices for industrial production. One shows how many devices in your pools and the other show industry production. You can scroll through the list and see what locations are short of either resources or oil and identify your needs.
I ship oil from LA
Take note that Pearl has a need for resources for it's industries so setting up a resources CS TF early on is a good idea.

If you shut down HI in Australia, I am assuming that will also shut down what little aircraft production they have going on?

I've never transfered Oil to OZ. It's just slightly short of its needs and you're better off shipping fuel in the tankers.

Shipping Oil to Oz is handy if they use up the fuel on hand and your fuel convoy isn't there yet.
If they have Oil, they can make their own fuel while your CS convoys are still en-route.
Once I capture the small refineries at Boela and Babo, I ship that oil to Aus and not have to worry so much about
Syd & Melbourne refineries running out.
I also stockpile 100,000 supply in Townsville for ops in PNG in 1942.. it's only a short hop to Port Moresby from there.
Here is some history on that:
In January 1942, US officers arrived in Townsville to investigate the development of an airfield and supply network and the formation of US Base Section Two as the north Queensland centre of USASOS. Headquarters for the organisation was established in the Australian Mercantile Land and Finance Building on the corner of Denham and Walker Streets, Townsville. Townsville was chosen as an air base and for the assembly of crated aircraft and vehicles because of its port facilities. What soon became a flood of US equipment and supplies commenced with the arrival of the first Liberty Ships discharging amphibious vehicles and jeeps, and the first consignment of P-39 fighter aircraft. On 19 February (the day of the initial Japanese air raid on Darwin), the first B-17 Flying Fortresses of the US 19th Bombardment Group (BG) landed after having flown the Pacific. Three days later the first US heavy bombing mission out of Queensland left Garbutt air base to attack Japanese installations at Rabaul. As Japanese forces continued to hold out in New Guinea and on the Solomon Islands, vessels of all types crowded into Cleveland Bay, Townsville. At times as many as 60 cargo vessels were lying at anchor off the outer harbour, awaiting their turn to enter port to unload fuel and military supplies or embark troops for Port Moresby, Buna, Milne Bay, Cape York and the Torres Strait islands. During 1942 the port of Townsville handled about 328,000 tonnes of war materials as well as 5,500 vehicles and 63,500 tonnes of fuel. The city’s population swelled to around 100,000, of whom almost 80 per cent were military personnel.

Nope. HI points are "global" so as long as you are generating a few of them (say in the US) there will always be plenty in the HI pool for the Allied player to run all of their factories.

Cool.... thanks Mike. That HI has been eating up the fuel I need for shipping but I didn't want to stop the Beaufort production as those are almost the only torpedo bombers I get to play with...

That does seem to be the prevailing choice among those who post here, it's not mine.
If I see a shortage of something I am driven to address it. Doesn't matter if it doesn't make good "game" sense. If those refineries were short on oil to refine the workers would be sent home and thier political representatives would be clamoring to the government to get some oil delivered. I try to play by what makes sense in a realistic context, not just what makes good "game" sense.
