From my opponent:

Hi Dennis,
I just watched the replay. I don't think it is bad dice rolls. Maybe for one day, but you have constantly missed for several turns in many different locations. I haven't seen Allied ships survive so many different attacks by Bettys and Nells. Those ships should have been sunk. Maybe something behind the scenes has been changed for torpedo planes to make them less effective??? in the beta version??? We might have to re-start with the official patch or earlier beta???

I agree with him. My torpedoes didn't hit doodley squat since december 7th. Even my subs didn't score any hits. Does anybody have an idea??????

I have gotten hits in my current game and playing with latest beta (r9 right now).  What's the DL of you targets?  That is what I have found to be the number 1 factor ....

I have also no problems with toropedo hit under r4 version.
Of course i had 40 Betty`s attacking 3 British DD with no hits. But DD are hard to hit and weather was bad.

I don't know what is meant by DL.

I do know that something is wrong. My G4M1 and G3M2 bombers have done many attacks on the Dutch cruisers at Soerabaja and at the Houston and Boise. All within torpedo range. When they launch there torpedoes and don't even see misses in the combat replay. It is like they just didn't fire. Or only fired 1 instead of all torpedoes. Combat report says that all torpedoes have been fired. So far only one HDML was hit. All other strikes were completely useless. Even against AKs AVs and stuff. Torpedobombers from the carriers are equally bad at hitting things. The Kates became far more effective after their torpedoes ran out. Also my submarines didn't score a single hit after the first couple of turns. Many misses and many duds. I would almost think that the Japanese are flying with the faulty USN torpedoes. So far I only observed the problem in this game and not in others. Good to know that is not the beta. I will do some test this weekend and than we will decide what to do further.

DL = Detection Level

DL is one of the most critical aspects for successful attacks.  If your target has high DL (>8 and 10 if possible) it greatly increases the probability of an attack, how coordinated the attack is, how appropriately it is armed, and how likely it will succeed.

What you are describing all sounds like an attack against a low DL target.

The DL was generally high. Some of the TFs were spotted several days in a rows and large groups of bombers attacked. All carying torps and no hits. That even my Allied opponent started complaining about the torps says enough right? Anyway, it is good to know that the problem is not the beta. No idea what else may be the cause...
