Grrr. Fort Morgan stayed in Aurelian's hands and my assaulting forces are to disorganised to stand any chance against potential counter-attack. Withdrawal seems to be only reasonable course of actions.

Union force was active and thus city has fallen. Subsequent battles were on none significance. City will be retaken (probably) but all constructed units are lost.

Period of activity across whole front apart from deep south.

Predictably during the course of 3 battles New Orleans has been retaken. I will guard it better now.

What was weird and unpleasant was loss of practically whole fleet near New Orleans. According to battle messages ships were sunk by enemy forces but no battle has taken place.

Still not much happening in the west, forces from New Orleans are travelling north so I am happy with lack of pressure in Mississippi area.

A bit different story in Virginia. I feel strong enough to cross Potomac and Army of the Shenandoah numbering 15000 men started to dig in Montgomery. I want Aurelian to feel insecure.

Longstreet and Butler continue their game. This time Union commander lead larger force.

Good news. Fort Clark withstand assault so enemy is rope for the taking. Relief force is dispatched.

Gen Grant has landed on Island 10 and started siege, but situation is actually good. Union forces have really low cohesion and T Jackson strike force is on the the way.

More and more troops are being sent across Potomac. Unfortunately not all available formations can be transferred north. Richmond and Norfolk area has to be secure and it constantly saps my reinforcements.

Despite the fact that Fort Macon has fallen I consider it good turn. Siege of Fort Clark was lifted and garrison strengthened. I think I am safe here for now.

[X(] The Potomac Area is an ocean of Gray units! Isn't Aurelian playing with fire there? I know there's FOW but still...

This game seems to be providing a lot of fun: wild developments here and there and then there and here [:)]

Kamil: In the interest of play balance, couple questions:

1. What is the reported force ratio in the Objective tab of the Strategic atlas?

2. Can you guys do a headcount of troops? Shouldn't take too long

Combat power percentage difference in favour of USA, and estimation of CSA mobile forces

Early Jan '62: 126 power, CSA 118900
Early Apr '62: 114 power: CSA 172600
Early Aug '62: 116 power, CSA 211000

Plus I have 264 unused conscripts and 623 war supplies

I think Kentucky neutrality blurs a picture a bit, but I have impression, that Union is slightly too weak (but I have no clue what Aurelian is building and it may have impact on current situation), Southerners have far too many war supplies (on the other hand blockade is only 35% and my raiders were wreaking havoc on shipping lanes).

One more think, I feel, that rail and riverine movement is a bit too fast. It is just too easy go move units between west and east theatre. But maybe it should be like that.

All in all I reserve my opinion until I see further years of conflict. Plus I am aware that game balance should not be judged based on one AAR, especially involving players with limited experience in CW 2.

Annoying enough after inconclusive battle with B. Bragg Union army under Grant moved (retreated?) to Dyer province, thanks to that development northerners avoided battle with Jackson's corps.

Sensing danger shortly after arrival at Montgomery province I decided to march west to safety of Loudon's trenches. I feared I do not have enough forces to rish flanking manoeuvre. In the meantime E. Johnson's 7000 will assault Gettysburg and then move back to Fredericktown.

Btw, What I find a bit annoying is digging in procedure - fortification created by single cavalry element can later be occupied by whole army without any negative impact on entrenchment level.

In the north inevitable has happened, Chester has fallen, but really annoying thing has happened further south. Grant's forces were beaten, but 2:1 casualty ratio in his favour do not please me, but I think I will have few turns of respite in the west.

I do not have enough troops to undertake meaningful offensive, Aurelian have at Alexandria powerful army (2500 pwr) that can easily cut off my marauding forces if I advance too far into Maryland, but it will hopefully change soon ...

Aurelian seems to be ready for offensive action. Nothing can be done with superiority of Union forces.

Period of inactivity in Mississippi and it suits me perfectly.

Balance of forces make any meaningful offensive action impossible.

Invasion forces were easily repulsed, but I have to confess, that considering my numerous superiority and terrain I expected more convincing victory.
