Hi Lemon - It's scenario 1 with PDU on. I'm playing against my Dad who has only played against the AI. As such I should have an edge on tactical play and I'm hoping an overall 'shock' effect for the capabilities of a human control Japanese effort for the first 6 months.

Right. Initial plane and fac changes done as are convoy set ups.
Now it's time to focus on LCU's and what to assign and where. I'm much more comfortable with this as its using the same old skills and planning I use with the Allies. I also have a grand plan I'm working to which helps [;)]

One thing that is a bit different are the TOE upgrades and units that combine. There are several big CD guns units that start out as SNLF or guard units and must combine with a port support unit to make a ilex base force with big CD guns. Good to know which and where to put those units so you can later combine. Some of the bigger base forces also get decent CD guns and it's nice to know before sending them out. The ones like 1st Base Force, etc.
A lot of other units combine to make divisions. Some are garrison forces. Some Chinese brigades, some home island infantry units where units arriving later make up a division. It's easy to buy out the wrong thing to send to the Pacific so make sure you get a look into tracker and see what makes what eventually.

LCU assignment and preparation is progressing well. With us having played a historical first turn I'm sticking with most of the historical assignments:
25th Army and 16th Army (- babeldaob units prepping for Mindanao) to Malaya with addition of 4th and 21st Divisions. I'm likely to try the Mersing Gambit with these divisions + 2nd division.
14th Army to Luzon. I just want to hole up the Allies here.
15 Army to Burma.
I have to think what extra forces to send to SoPac to take PM.
All of the little rinky dink SNLF forces will take the tiny unoccupied bases and the larger Babeldaob SNLF units will take Ternate at first.
Still to plan where to place the Air Flotillas but thinking Jolo and Ambon first off.
Still to plan IndoChina forces in depth. Will probably assign the spare Bde/Rgt towards Borneo or Sumatra.
This will be phase 1.

I would send one infantry division to take Port Moresby, just in case. Also you need more troops at Luzon than Malaya. Singapore is actually rather easy to capture, usually I only use 25th Army and some independent regiments. I even send Imperial guards division to Burma, I don't need that taking Singapore, at least not if allied player is lacking any sensible strategy, meaning he's stacking everything at Singapore.

I prefer to hit Singapore with the kitchen sink. After that, I can move on other places all the quicker with the forces freed from the fall of Singapore.

This is my view also. After playing and knowing the allied side well I want to smash Malaya and overwhelm by the middle of January before moving onto phase 2. I don't need Luzon quickly ( I just want it cooped up and out of action) but I need Malaya before phase 2.
I have no idea with dad as he's only played against the AI.
I feel I'll have the edge on him due to being more experienced but who knows....

Tony 1b upgrades to Tony 1d, not 1c. Tony 1c is a separate path. Like the Frank b model.

Right. First turn is complete and off to my Dad. I worked out I spent 26.5 hours of work on the turn. Surely not a record but I feel I've done what I can and planned a fair bit on my spreadsheet.
Now I have to decide whether to write an AAR on this or not?!?
I have the time now my game with Fabertong is finished but I'm un-decided!

A point in favor of an AAR:
I'm doing my first AAR, and especially in a slow game I find it forces me to think harder about what I'm doing. There's just something about the possibility of someone asking why you did something and you have no idea...

I'm interested in the Dad vs Son match-up AND Speedy taking the IJ for a spin after so much experience on the Allied side. Even a weekly round-up would be great.
