either that or just a really really really big hamer to whack an enemy titan around with (tons of damage but slow and requiring both arms)

P.S. stupid question: the titans are all like bipedal humanoid in shape right? or are they like the mechwarrior hunched over walking platforms with inverted (i think inverted is the word either that or reversed) legs?

The vibra claws will sort of fill that rapier role - they do both external and internal damage, and can cause criticals like the meson gun.

As for titan shape, I believe it's a mix of both, like in BattleTech.

you mean robotech?

No, I mean like BattleTech. Some mech (or titans) are humanoid, some are not.

Wow, what a frenzie of responses! :D

I agree with ste_mark, bigger&slower melle weapons for bigger&slower titans. Makes sense.

wff's hand-held shield idea...i dunno. A heavy piece of metal that one titan carries with it is hard to imagine, but an energy shield powered by the engine could be a good idea. The sacrifice would probably be not being able to install any weapons in the same hand. Thus saving heavier titans from a disgracefull CC role. ;)

As for the hammer. How about a huuuuge energy powered sledgehammer? One that takes ages to reload but has a chance to knock a titan out of it's hex? I got this idea from a similar weapon in Fallout. The "Kinetic Mace" i belive... i loved that thing :)

The big hammer would be pretty cool, I agree, but why would you want a second energy shield when titans can already have shields?

the current shield simply turns energy weapon damage into heat and reduces heat from forest fires it doesn't protect against cc or cannons or missles (well mabey napalm not sure on that though)

but bottom line the current shield only stops energy and forest fires not shells or meelee damage

the shield i was proposing would be just like a huge slab of big metal or as was suggested energy to ward off blows from meelee damage (or shells as they both use kinetic energy to do damage)

Right, and that would make more sense than a second energy shield. I get the feeling, though, that it would be somewhat difficult to program that into the game. You'd have to account for hit location, maybe pilot skill with the shield, a seperate armor/damage table for the shield, since each hit would degrade it...

Still, it's an interesting thought. I'd like to hear Larkin's and Iceman's opinion on it.

Physical shields and swords/hammers have been proposed in the past and declined.
It would just turn the game into a Voltron kind of thing IMO, straying away from the ToS concept. Although I loved RoboTech, I don't find the anime "circus" as a good thing for ToS. This is *my* personal opinion.

And then there's the requirements Michael mentioned...

thorgrim i wasn't proposing naything there and i was just asking if he meant robotech instead of battletech (whatever that is ive no idea)

just a small but already understood non-doable wish list

i mean you've only said that everything is in place what? 40? 50 times?

You've never heard of BattleTech? Whoa.

Yes you were, you said 'the shield i was proposing...' . Sounds to me like you were proposing something. :)

I did not say such a thing. It's not in my power to say that, or even in my limited knowledge. VB knows what's in place or not, Matrix too, but not me. What I said is as far as bug hunting is concerned, it seems most of it is done. But Larkin cranks out betas on a almost daily basis, and new stuff brings new tests and occasionally new bugs. :)
Everything is coming together now in preparation for the new beta testing phase.

I make Michael's words my own:
You've never heard of BattleTech? Whoa.
