we land at Rabaul and had the same fearful feeling we had during the assault on Wake as without KB in the area you might just run into an enemy carrier or some strong surface assets... now I didn't expect anything bigger than a CA around Rabaul and my CA SAG that is covering the invasion could deal with such a threat but we are 17 days into the war so with no carrier waiting for the Wake invasion we could easily see one now covering Rabaul...

during the air search phase our float planes pick up a CA six hexes South West of Rabaul with our ships being spotted several times by enemy aircraft too... at that point I was already expecting an enemy CV based air strikes at my precious heavy cruisers but nothing happened... as it turned out the sighting for sure wasn't a CV TF... the convoy unloads for one day and heads North as do our heavy cruisers...

Victoria Point is the only usable airfield left South of Rangoon (level 4) that can be used for shifting aircraft from Burma to Malaya to Java or in the opposite direction and the base is still home of that small Allied base force that starts there... as we are dropping paras onto the field later the day we are preparing this with our bombers engaging this unit instead of missing Rangoon's airfield...

holy sh*t! [X(] as expected our paras didn't have any problem taking Victoria point and then I nearly pissed my pants about the insane timing as we find the field fully filled with USAAF fighters that must have withdrawn from Singapore to this airfield today, surely in transit to Rangoon... now that was quite a careless move of MrKane especially as he might have been well aware of our paras clearing one base after another to make life harder for the Allied airforce on this front... but still I wouldn't have expected to catch an enemy squadron there let alone three or even four when looking at the number of destroyed fighters... as the Allied I usually use the way via the Dutch airbases going North to Port Blair further on to Rangoon or other bases in Burma but MrKane must have sent the majority of Singapore's defenders right into my para drop... that was quite a present for christmas eve... [:D]

and IMO turned bringing all these fighters to Singapore into a total flop as there is literally nothing left of the USAAF fighter force now while nothing achieving over Singapore either as we just happily landed at Mersing without any interference... our paras report no less than five dozen burning US frontline fighters on the field... our next para assault is going to take Port Blair, more or less isolating Burma from Singapore and/or Java as Rangoon's airfield is pretty much closed and it takes long ranged aircraft to transit the distance from Burma to Sumatra...

for those not happy with "small" para drops, we used all available Tinas to drop this unit and managed to have a whopping 260 paras jumping having 2 guns with them... even that we missed CL Tromp today I was still very happy with the turn as you can imagine...[;)]

nothing happened on the 25th or I've just lost the cr...

no less than two completely failed sub attacks on CV Enterprise with the third one not doing any notable damage after two hits either and today CV Lexington manages to dodge six torps from RO-64... come on, this is beyond usual die rolls... makes it 22 torpedoes fired at those two carries resulting in 2 torps hitting... castor was quite pissed off the rest of this turn... a bit later typing the comments I calmed down focussing on the fact that the Rabaul invasion was a succes as the Allied are too late with their appearance...

still, what a joke to miss yet again as Lexington is a beast to be repaired due to her insane tonnage... lucky MrKane... [;)]

That "was" a mini disaster for him at Victoria Point-not to mention the aircraft he lost at Singapore. It is not something the Japanese player should do all of 42 but in the early month I think it is wise to just relentlessly go after the British and American fighters. You may lose more than him but eventually the Allies will just have nothing to fight with which can speed up the Japanese time table. That represented a two month supply of P40s and a month supply of P39s. Not to mention the valuable squadrons that are gone for 120 days.

A set back for him but not something the Allies can't recover from. If he compensates by risking his carriers then you might have something...
