I've got all of them - DW, GC1-2-and 3, Stellaris and Polaris Sector. Right now, Polaris Sector is my favorite with DW a very close second. Stellaris is unfinished and flawed. I imagine that time and money will eventually make it a really good game, but it will not be the same kind of game DW and PS are. And, apologies to those who love them, I find all of the GalCiv games painfully tedious and boring. The last, GC3, is the worst of the lot, but with better graphics!

Same here, and I am giving them both more time to cook. Polaris Sector instantly turned me off when I couldn't run down one little enemy scout/ship out of my territory because it kept escaping and had infinite fuel apparently. On the forums, I was told I was playing wrong if the scout bugged me, or something along those lines.

Stellaris seems to have the most potential if you role play the race. For instance, I created a race of mushrooms called Hippy Mandate with home world called Ganja Prime, and basically make every decision by asking, what would a peace loving hippy do?

I am finding Stardock games are all boring and not my thing any more. Sound awesome on the surface, but never deliver for me. Not saying their games are bad, they're just not for me.

In the meantime, I am going back and playing older games. Maybe start up a game of Civ V, which I have not played in a while.

Polaris Sector. I gave it a good try but just didn't like it. Entirely personal preference. Not a knock on the game.

Galactic Civ. I'm a little OCD, and there is something about the turn-based repetition of GC that relaxes me. Again just personal preference.

In Metacritic users reviews are excellent.

PS: I don“t believe in "Professional reviews" since they are usually written by professional mercenaries. [:D]

I clocked circa 30 hours, and to say that I'm disappointed is an understatement.

The game starts great - and this is what, I guess, deceived both professional and players' reviews. After ten hours of sheer "WOW!" the game... dunno, just stops. You go on and on, but you have seen what there was to see, dullness ensues, end of the story.

Ironically, the only review among those "out of the gate" that, IMHO, nailed Stellaris' problems was IGN's. Of course the reviewer was immediately accused of being a "Modern Warfare"-head, or that Paradox didn't pay him, or such. Instead the joke was on the gamers.

Now the party line is "But it will get better with patches and expansions!". I.e. You don't buy Stellaris, you "invest" money in it - a bit like buying stock in something, but without being able to sell it.

To put things in context, my votes on genre-related games:

Europa Universalis IV: 8.5 (9 when they will devote some love to the Far East)
Crusader Kings II: 9.2 (a drug, even if they currently they need to fix some elements introduced in the latest DLC "Conclave")
Distant Worlds Universe: 9.0 (the day they mix it with CKII so that we can play Frank Herbert's "Dune" my social life will end)
Stellaris: 5 (to think that I pre-ordered the Galaxy Edition... sorry, Paradox, nevermore).

I saw a guy post in Steam reviews that Stellaris sets a new bar for 4X space games to reach but I haven't played it so wouldn't know.

I have DW but don't like RT much at all for 4X games so would rather play GalCiv2, Endless Space or even Horizon. I have Star Ruler, which is another RT 4X space game and don't play that for the same reason.

p.s. Metcritic are both pro and use reviews, users to the right.

Stellaris patched to 1.1 today.

Ever wanted to play as a platypus, well now you can:

"With this update we also decided to provide following contents for free:

Platypus species portrait
Paradox empire symbol
Symbols of Domination"

Plus a whole bunch of other fixes.
