Here are the major ship losses. The light cruisers continue down about half a page.

MrKane has been extremely efficient at protecting his ships with his awesome airforce. I have only managed a few ambushes with good results.

I didnt get to fight a lot of older model Japanese aircraft in this game. My hope is that MrKane's acceleration of these airframes will have a detrimental effect on his supply later in the game. My lack of effective interference with his supply chain isnt helping that hope.
The army airforce pool is empty, the naval pool is decent.

Late October 1943
In a pincer move by land forces with amphibious landings of anti-aircraft and armor the allies were able to capture Darwin. Mr. Kane is conceding Buna by evacuating his forces. He has strong airfields at Rabaul, Nadzab and Madang.

Working my way thru from near the beginning. How many turns do you flip in a week?

We were playing at a breakneck pace up until mid december when it became too much and I was thinking about quitting so the game took a 2 week pause. Now we are flipping 2-6 a day I figure depending on my schedule. Between February 4 and February 12 it appears to have been 22 turns so averaging about 3 a day.

Samlauki fell today. Dobo should fall tomorrow. I am hurting his efforts to stop me with LBA. This has forced Mrkane to reveal his carrier fleet(s) at the top of the map. I will withdraw most of the fleet.
I need to upgrade some of the carriers and rest the crews so the major movement is over for a while. By the time they get back into the game I will have 200 more carrier deck space with my DS.

Mid November 1943
I managed to quickly take Taberfane, Dobo and Saumlaki north of Darwin after sucessfully taking out that base and Port Moresby. MrKane roared in with the KB but was unable to catch my carriers. We danced for a while but the outcome was uncertain. I lost 3 light cruisers and over 10 destroyers but was able to severely damage 2 of his Heavy cruisers with one a possible sinking although no points have been awarded for it yet.
My carrier fleet is not strong enough to take on MrKane directly so I am flying eastwards to see if I can do a sneak attack on Rabaul where he has some surface warships and a transport fleet.

Last turn I reinforced Port Moresby to add some units and a lot of supply and it got the attention of MrKane.
His air force sweeps are brutal if you do not have sufficient cap. He hit me with over 10 sweeps including 400+ fighters in this turn in addition to attacking one of the naval task forces and damaging several ships with a 40 bomber attack escorted by 40 fighters.

I was perusing the plane losses for the IJAAF and IJNAF and I think they have really focused on some advanced fighter planes in development.
Given the date, I would have thought there would be more Frank A losses.
I am curious to see what Japan has up their sleeve. Shinden? Ki94II? Something else?

A lucky hit!! Mutsu also took a torpedo within the last week. The first large target hits of my subs all game. This hit was tagged with a *major flooding*.

Nice, but unfortunately a Mark 10 has a lot less boom than most torpedoes. Kaga will have some minor flood damage but not much else.
Still, she's a slow 25 kts to start with so if he lost an few more knots speed she could be easier pickings for the next sub.

I believe the Kaga is 29 kts and any hit with a US sub on one of the KB is a bonus at this juncture of the war.

When I was learning the game playing both sides, an S-boat put a Mark 10 into BB Mutsu which suffered but ONE point of minor flood damage, repaired at sea.
Kaga is made of the same stuff as Mutsu. I also find that those extra damage messages seem to be relative to the power of the weapon involved, so Major Flooding from a Mark 10 would be less severe than Major Flooding from a Mark 13 or 14.

Given the overwhelming optimism around here.... What do you think of the fate of the Kongo?
The plus side is if Kaga has taken significant damage it means time in the yards. If the ship is big enough it might mean japan yards. It didnt even show up on the sunk list.

I have only seen collisions sink very small ships, but if Kongo already had heavy damage that might be enough to get runaway flooding.

It was a joke, the Kongo had not been in battle nor collected any damage. I did get a nice chuckle out of it when it showed up in the list though.
