Has anyone tried using Amazon Web Services to host an MWIF game? That sounds look an intriguing option.

I have used Vassal for other games, and I understand its virtues. But I prefer MWIF to Vassal-WIF, not least because I'm still learning WIF, years after I started playing it, and MWIF enforces (almost) all the rules. Plus, MWIF is so pretty. :)

I am in a group that is doing that. It is completely useable although sometimes mouse clicks have to be repeated or are finicky because of lag.

In the NetPlay testing I've done, there's been no lag at all, so once its fully working, it'll be the way to go for two players.

Paul, I would be interested in checking into that option as well.

Could you advise which of those people set it up so that I could get more information by PM unless they are willing to publish more details. Also interested to understand costs incurred.

Thanks.

Dave

I've tried to read most of what has been posted in the tech section but I can't really find out the general status on NetPlay? For example, are there Global Wars that are able to progress through complete turn(s) without running into bugs that breaks the game at the moment (completely disregarding games with 3 or more players)?

Bug's on Netplay are still being fixed. You can look into Steve's monthly reports for more information on Netplay.

Yeah, I appreciate that info as well but was more looking for an answer along the lines of:

"If you're lucky avoiding the game-breaking bugs you might be able to complete a full turn."

or

"Working quite nicely, but the game is for sure going to stop during the naval phase no matter what"

or something in that direction. Although, maybe at this time there is currently no such answer to give.

Well, I can give you an answer for this. Apart from some very stubborn game halting bugs in Naval combat, which appear to be hard to fix (or when fixed, causes the game to halt at another point of naval combat) we could play a whole turn without problems.

But that still means that you can't get past the naval combat sequence, except when you elect not to fight at sea.... [;)]

You could probably get through a game of the Barbarossa scenario as long as the Russians don't sortie from Leningrad.

While beta testing that scenario earlier, myself and another beta tester made it through several turns.
