Nah, let us keep it here, who knows if this happens to some one else too. Most peculiar issue, must say ...

I still suspect the AV or MalwareBytes because it is common to both machines.

I have a love/hate relationship with my AV (Norton on Win7, McAfee on Win10). It's hit or miss. Can cause the oddest of quirks. Oftentimes, in the course of transferring new CS EXEs from the dev system to test systems, I have to deactivate the AV for a time. Lots of [&:] and .

I have the free MalwareBytes, have not run a scan for a while, did now. All good.

I have Bitdefender as my AV programme, it has given me grief at times with the developer builds Berto has delivered. Those are without the electronic signature Matrix Games adds to these official builds though, so I can agree with that behaviour.

OK, zipped, on my Google Drive and shared with Jason! Too bad you didn't take me as a Beta tester or we would have ironed this out months ago! [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

IT IS THE AV!

So I disconnected from the web, and turned off the Webroot AV firewall and such and started it up. Was able to load the Bootcamp scenario. So you have an incompatibility with Webroot AV.

The game EXEs are properly digitally signed. Maybe these errant AVs will come to recognize the CSME EXEs over time?

The is reminiscent of this issue, which was not really our fault, was Nvidia's. (Nvidia's inability to play nice with the game engine forced us to rename it me.exe > meengine.exe.)

Anyway, whew, seems you got it figured out!

most AV sites have a bad file link to them so if a given item doesn't pass it, you report the item and send it to them and they add it to there data base as safe so in the next daily / weekly update it's uploaded to everyone who use it, might be worth a try, as it's known as a false positive and it quite common, but didn't flag anything up at my end, then again i'm using corp stuff apart from MalwareBytes and ran a scan with that on the install folder and it's fine with it so no worries there.

glad your sorted and can finally play[;)]

So here is the trick, because I am sure someone else will hit this...

1. shut down your internet
2. shut down the AV
3. Start the game a pick a scenario and you're in.
4. restart AV
5. Restart internet
6. If you want to start a new scenario you can do so under new, you just have to get by the Me.Engine.exe incompatibility.

In retrospect, your experience makes sense. You launch the frontend, as it runs your AV blocks its execution, causing it to freeze. Eventually you somehow get past the freeze to where you can try to launch a scenario, but the AV blocks the game engine from running also. Meanwhile, meanwhile, all these red herrings that (mixing metaphors) lead us down blind alleys.

Anyway, all's well that ends well. This is a good experience to remember next time around, if and when.

just add the exe or the folder with all the data in it to the safe list

Code: Select all

https://www5.nohold.net/Webroot/ukp.aspx?pid=12&login=1&app=vw&solutionid=760&donelr=1

check under 'Utilities', 'System Control' and then click 'Start' to see if any .exe's associated with (given game etc) or DirectX are being blocked? If so, please switch them to 'Allow'.
