My first computer wargame was also Knights of the Desert (for the C64). Followed by Battlefront by Roger Keating and Ian Trout. This was the original Battlefront game.

My first commercial game was F15 Strike Eagle on my IBM 386 probably in 1986.

First board game I think was Gettysburg at around age 9 or 10 (1970). My brother Mark used to beat me pretty severely.

My first PC war game was Mech Brigade on the Commodore 64. Later I moved to the V for Victory series which at the time were the best PC war games at the time.

What? You didn't get Steel Tigers or Typhoon of Steel on the c64? Those were the brothers and sisters of Steel Panthers W@W and WWII today.

I had some for the c64, but just can't remember what they were or was first. There was a text-based civil war game, but it was pretty simple. Think it was freeware or whatever they called it back then. I do remember Wargame Construction Set, but it wasn't that great. [:)] For the PC, its Steel Panthers.

Same. This game & AH's Guadalcanal game were my favorites for quite some time. My first computer wargame was SSI's Tigers in the Snow & Shiloh for the Apple II. It's the reason why I bought an Apple II.

I forgot what game was my first IBM PC game. I think it was either an SSI or SSG Apple II game ported to the PC. SSI & SSG were my favorite computer wargame companies then (mid-/late-80's). Time sure flies!!

My first "true" wargame was Midway by SSI. It was written in Basic, and you could enter the program and change everything...

Or at least I could then. Today I'm too sclerotic to pull the very same feat. Some memories are not beautiful, but depressing [:'(]

Probably Ancient Battles on Amstrad CPC 464. Not sure.

Theatre Europe on the mighty Amstrad CPC6128. It was a mid-80s game about a Warsaw Pact invasion of Western Europe. Great stuff. Then, after a long hiatus, The Ardennes Offensive by SSG. This quickly led to The Operational Art of War etc etc

However, there is/was a Midway scenario in Carrier Force by SSI...

I played the shtdog out of Midway, Bismark and Planet Miners by Avalon Hill back in the day of great ascii wargames. Anyone else have Blue Powder and Grey Smoke or Under Fire?

While Blue Powder Grey Smoke was by Ralph Bosson (who did Under Fire, pictured above), he released it under his own company "Garde"...

Still those were two challenging games for their time. I like to have never beat the Union at little round top. My men kept getting slaughtered at devils den.
