I was not sure I would find time to play today and then an opening occurred. It was very painful watching the Allied turn and dreading them get back to back goes. The Allies launched 50 attacks - three of them from Pegasus Bridge in the East.

Here is the situation on the morning of the 15th.

While at work today. I was thinking of moving the 17th SS Pz Grenadiers East into the area around Bayeux. However, when I got home and checked the 17th SS are holding a lot of ground. Here is my thinking now...

Well that was hard to watch - the Allies pounded my defences and advanced closer to Caen. Worse luck, with three key divisions reorganizing, there is not much I can do to counter them.

I hate watching the computer do round after round of attacks and then get a back to back move and get to do more rounds of attacks. It can be very frustrating...

Okay, I'm done my rant. Time to start figuring out how to recover from this.

Think about how Rommel felt at the time. Although the turn sequencing is artificial, the overall effect is relatively realistic. The Germans rarely got the initiative historically, and were usually reacting to the Allies moves (lethargic as they were) apart from a few divisional level attacks (21st Panzer against the initial landings, 17th SS at Carentan, Pz Lehr near St Lo - all which were failures). All the panzer divisions sent for the "big" counteroffensive ended up plugging holes instead. The only time there were several panzer divisions attacking at once in the same direction was the ill-advised Mortain "Offensive" which effectively was shut down the day it was launched.

Anyway, you're doing well in a very difficult situation.

Nicholas,

Thanks for the encouragement. I really wish the High Command would unleash the remaining armour divisions.

I agree, for the Germans it must have been hard to be pushed onto your heels. I know that when I played the Allies it seemed as if I could push most of the German units around, being on the other side is frustrating at times - but is likely realistic. It is so much more fun when I have the upper hand.

Here is the situation in front of Caen. If only my forces were not reorganizing. I see a great opportunity. but I can not exploit it...

After conducting my moves - the counterattack I had described, which got mixed results, I hit end turn and the Allies launched a massive attack South out of Bayeux. I was watching my forces continue to get pushed back and the three key divisions all remained in reorganizing mode. Then a miracle happened. The game crashed. Now I had a good excuse to replay my turn.

So, I went back and modified my plans - adopting defensive positions instead of counter attacking. Hit end turn and discover I'm getting a back to back and those three divisions are back to normal. Whew!!!

Here is a look at the situation...

"Replay the turn"

Shocked I am....truly shocked 😀😀

Now I see why you are playing v the AI ☺

It seems like it would make a great MP scenario.

Ian,

The replay of the turn was very helpful.

It would be an interesting MP game. Some of the German unit are very powerful which gives the player some interesting options. I think that next Fall, I may have the time to try an MP battle.

This game is fun. The Allies get back to back moves. They did not do too much damage and I am happy that for a while I do not have to worry that they are going to get another back to back.

The Allies keep pushing. A storm hit today that will lower their supply for a bit, but I'm not expecting any respite...
