The battle for Singpaore begins. My forces drop his forts from 4 to 2 in the first round of combat while in the forced shock attack from the river crossing. My forces are a little light on supplies so I have them in defense for the next turn.

Operation Kick-a-poo Joy Juice, the capture of Djambi, goes off without a hitch. Eight Transport air groups flying out of Kuala Lumpur drop almost a third of the 1st Para Assault Division right on top of the enemy base. Complete surprise was achieved as the base was completely undefended.

• Several air battles over Pegu as we contest for control of the air.
• Joe gets in another night-time naval bombardment. I've got a pair of subs literally patrolling the hexes between Rangoon and Pegu but so far - no joy.

Near Muntok the RO-64 slammed a torpedo into the xAK Liran. On fire & hvy damage.

Joe ran B-17s at Singapore at 6k. My IMAM fighters were @ 10k which gave them the bounce but IMAMs VS Fortresses are kind of like bugs against a wind shield…

Other than that it was a surprisingly quite turn.

I've got an attack planned in China as I work to knock out that theatre. I'm moving the 16th Army to Bangkok in an effort to build a pair of divisions back to full strength.

I've got a CD unit close to Singapore via the rail system but I think they'll be a day late and dollar short of any additional naval bombardments @ Singapore.

I've been trying to fly over an engineer unit to Djambi but it keeps failing… Weird. I'm trying another ENG unit (the 24th JAAF) in the thought that maybe there's something wrong with the 94th JAAF that I tried last turn.

16.4 GROUND UNITS

Bases that have supplies that exceed double their supply requirements may use the excess to
provide replacements (as long as the ground unit has the Accept Replacements selection made
on its Ground Unit Information screen).

If needed items are in the pool (or there are armament points ready to build them if the forces
are Japanese and the Production system for Japan is turned on), then they may be added to
the unit. The unit should gain at least 1 of each of the needed items (need is if TOE value is
greater than the disabled+ready value of the unit and any sub units on the map). The unit may
receive more than 1 of each item needed, but must pass a series of checks to do this. Each base that
the unit is within supply range of may send replacements, so there is an advantage
of being near lots of well stocked bases. Sub units may never receive replacements unless it
is an engineer type unit under computer control. If the sub unit is an engineer type unit, it may
take replacements for Aviation Support, Support, and Engineers (if the sub unit has any of the
specific item). The desired TOE it tries to build to is up to 90 Aviation Support, 90 Support, and/
or 48 Engineers.

My question is - how do I determine the unit's supply range? Do all LCU have the same supply range or is there a difference between divisions, regiments, etc..

In PBEM you will get a diamond instead of the number.
Playing against the AI you will get the diamond and the number.

I’m not sure if a diamond means the hex is in supply range of the base because supply below 10 will not move.

This is how I thought it works for playing against the AI:

Your unit can be in the field and receive replacements if it is is near a well supplied base.

Choose the base that has double the supply requirements and then see if your unit in the field is in supply range by using the “5” hot key to see if the hex is in range.
If the hex is in overland supply range it will have the number 10 or above.

The “5” hot key displays overland supply movement. Choose the base and press the 5 key and wait several minutes for the numbers to display.

The game engine figures out overland supply movement from the chosen base taking into account roads, terrain, etc.. and displays a number which indicates how often a Hex could receive supply.

For the supply to move the base has to have supply to spare (3 times or more over what the base requires)

89 to 100 supply could move there four times per week.
49 to 88 supply could move there twice a week.
10 to 48 supply could move there once a week.
Below 10 supply will never move there. (The hex is out of supply range of that base)

The formula to determine these numbers is to take the 100 at the base location and subtract the terrain movement cost for supply which is found in table 8.3.1 of the manual for every hex along the path.

The diamond in PBEM can indicate a number below 10 which I thought was out of supply.

Is it for replacements?

So thanx for the info TruGrit. I am seeing the diamonds. My base hex that I want to rebuild my units in is Johore Bharu, and when I press the "5" key I see diamonds all through Malaya, Thailand, and Indochina... I think I remember seeing something about bases adjacent to each other being able to move supplies back and forth easier so around Johore Bhare are Singapore, Mersing, and Kluong. I was figuring that if I can jack supplies up above 2x at all of those bases then I should be able to refill the squads of my divisions that were lost in combat at a faster pace. I swear I read something along those lines by Alfred but for the life of me I can't find that thread... But as I note, I'm really trying to get additional squads into my divisions so I can continue my advance. I'm a little behind of where I want to be - primary because I took a standard opening while familiarizing myself with the Italian and German units. Now I'm ready to try and make a big push in my game against Joe.

Another question I have is the reserve setting. If I set my LCU to reserve status they have a better chance of bringing in replacement squads/tanks/etc. - right?

So to rebuild my divisions currently at Singapore I'm moving them to Johore Bharu.
○ I need to increase my Supplies to base needs by greater than X2 at Johore Bharu, Singapore, Mersing, and Kloung. So for all four bases I'll set supplies to stockpile and insure that each base has a few troops. Short of dropping of tons of supplies at Singapore I'm hoping that supplies will filter down from Thailand, which is well supplied.
○ I set all units of the 25th Army to move to Johore Bharu.
○ 2do - prep bases in Malaya for rebuilding LCUs.

There was some weird stuff with the I-172 east of OZ. My sub found a single-ship xAK TF and surfaced to attack with the main gun. So it fires one shot than the combat ends as it's low on ammo. And then it surfaces again later and fires one shot and the engagement ends again. Definitely a flaw in the game's subroutine for sub combat. It should do a check for ammo before a surface combat scenario and my WAG is that's not happening.

So This will be my last turn of the week as I'm taking my wife to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving. We'll take in a few shows and take in the sights.

I've got DMS at Singapore removing the mine fields. I haven't seen Joe pushing anymore around Singapore. I'm starting to air-ferry units to Sumatra. That's actually kinda cool.

At Chengchow my bombers do some pounding of the Chinese Corps located there. After being on the receiving end of Joe's Fortresses, it's nice to give back - even if I'm only using Sallys. Later on my ground forces at Chengchow do a D_ATK and get 3:1 odds, taking the base.

So after bragging about my Sallys - what am I doing wrong at Pegu? My fighters are flying mixed altitudes on CAP fro 10k to ceiling of 29k... His bombers are coming in at 6k so I'm guessing my low of 10 is still too high for his bombers that are flying at 6k? Also - there's almost no time as the allied bomber raids are only spotted a few minutes from the attack. Maybe the bad weather and the difference of 10k VS 6k between my lowest fighters and his bombers?

East of Babeldaob Joe comes after ships from a Fast Transport TF that he upset a couple turns back. From what I can tell it's a CVL, a pair of CS, escorted by CAs and DDs. This surprised me. @ Djambi I had three AG of fighters LRCAPing from Singapore. All I saw was a lone Tojo go up. Joe swept it aside and then bombed the snot outta the AF.

Other than that, the turn was kinda quiet.

I ran my economy into the ground. I’m using a lot more resources than I’m used to from stock games. I added another six CS:convoys and will kick out a few more over the next 1-5 turns.

I brought over another FG of Zeros into Singapore. They should be ready to fight next turn.

Joe bombards Pegu again. I'm moving naval units up the slot towards Burma now that I've got Singapore. I'm trying to go air/naval/land for Burma.

Regarding my fighter groups - I wish I had more naval fighter units and have made a request for additional Zero-capable FG in Joe's future updates to this mode. Unfortunately, the BF109 cannot hold a 1-on-1 fight with the allied P-40. And the BF109 has a service rating of 2... In truth I expected the BF109 to do much better in combat as it has armor and a 20mm cannon. Nope. At the start of the war the only Japanese fighter that seems to hold their own is the Zero. Below is pretty typical for the BF109 VS the allied P-39 and P-40 fighters. I'm afraid what this would look like against the Skyrocket that Joe recently received.

Most of my ground force in Malaya took a beating during my Singapore campaign. I'm working to get those divisions back up to snuff.

For the PI I'm purchasing another division for the PI. My plan is to knock out the PI and free up more ground units.

I'm kinda pleased with the G5N2 Liz. my bomber ground attack missions have kind of sucked. The Liz carries 12 x 250kg GP bombs, proving that more is often better - lol.

In China I've finally rebuilt 3 divisions in Singapore and have their TOE refilled. I'm pushing them up north to give my some additional umph as I drive towards Sian.

I've moved an AG of Zeroes to Bangkok to help out in the Sumatra/java Theatre.

I was having issues with resources in the home islands for about a week but I've got that under control now.

Notes on air frames:
I'm weening myself from the Oscar in favor of the Nick FB and the BF109. the 109 still sucks against the current crop of allied fighters but it's better than the Oscar in everything but range.

Sumatra
I'm moving another division over as I ready for taking Palembang. I'm also sending air support to Padang via air transport.

At Medan I have two task forces sending resources and oil to Georgetown. The oil keeps my refineries @ Bangkok producing fuel.

Philippines
At San Fernando the 23rd Div. prepares for a shock attack against a small Pilipino ground unit. The 62nd Naval Guard unit has just arrived and will throw their support into the combat. At Tokyo another task force is loading three more naval guard units for transport to Vigan. At Utsonomiya the 61st Division is preparing for Clark Field. I hope to be able to transfer this division from East Army command to the SA in another five days, after which the division will be on its way to the Philippines.

Burma
Two more divisions from the 16th Army have arrived at Moulmein and are in route to Pegu.

Air Combat
For Japan I'm just now starting to get my air frame production up to support my goals. Pilots from my training program are filtering into air groups, which is providing better results in the air-to-air combat that has been taking place over Palembang and Rangoon.

Of interest to me:
I see what looks to be a raiding or bombardment TF at the NE tip of Borneo. My WAG is that Joe is prepping a strike of Miri or Brunei. I've got an air-combat TF dropping down towards Palawan from deeper in the South China Sea.
