Turn 15 - 15th March 1940

The war continues to hot up.

The Soviets win the Winter War.

In China 4th Army survives by the skin of its teeth (down to 1-point before the Japanese had nothing else to attack with). The attacks around Chengchow hurt but were much less effective. Chinese fighters were hit - I may need to take them out of the firing line for a while....

Turn 15 - 15th March 1940

The Luftwaffe turn on the Armee del'air once more. The French suffer but I'm hoping the recent upgrade hurt the Germans too because the subsequent attack on 9th Army proved unsuccessful.

We're now in Spring so I guess I can expect an attack anytime now....

Turn 16 - 29th March 1940

I'm asked once again about Singapore - and once again I tell them where they can stick their 200MPP.

I spend 175 MPP on Ground Attack Research for the Soviets.

I spend 175 MPP on Advanced Fighters for the Indians. I also purchase two Garrisons.

I purchase a CV with the US.

I bring the French air force up to full strength.

With the British I continue to upgrade naval units.

I decide to try and hold the fort east of Changsha for one more turn and move the CCCXXII Corps into the hex vacated by the shot 4th Army.... I suspect that is a suicide mission but it needs to be done.

Another quiet turn on the convoy front....

Well I wasn't wrong!!! [:(]

All hell broke loose on that turn....

Let's see if I can put this in some sort of sensible order (I can't see an ability to stop the game which is frustrating).

First off Reynaud replaced Daladier as French Prime Minister. Then the Germans declared war on the Low Countries

The Germans also undertook Weserubung - presumably via a Decision as there was no actual fighting. Norway and Denmark are now under the jackboot.

The Germans quickly end all resistance in the low countries and then move on to France. German troops are repulsed at the border but paratroopers have landed behind the Maginot Line....

Well here is an easy decision for the British to make. The answer is YES.

Here is a potentially interesting development in Japanese-occupied China... more of this in a minute.

The US get a CV and destroyer - both of which go to the Pacific.

The French get an HQ

But first, let's see what that development in China is all about. It looks like a Chinese Warlord or some such has proclaimed his own state!

There don't seem to be any units with this territory but let's hope the Japanese take some time to suppress the revolt. The Japanese have been using their carrier aircraft to add to Chinese losses but - apart from the expected loss of one corps - these have been manageable this turn.

I move no units this turn but am able to bring all up to strength.

The British purchase a fighter unit.

One thing I must achieve this turn is to remove the Fallschirmjager with as little dislocation to my frontline as possible.

5th and 8th Armies are tasked with this job and succeed with minimal loss.

great AAR, it is nice to read. The Chinese State at Nanjing is actualy a japanese puppet state, that can be formed by event.

Thank-you.

Re the puppet state I think it would be helpful to clarify that when the message pops up. I know little about the Sino-Japanese war and when I saw what looked like the Chinese flag in the hex, I thought perhaps there was some kind of revolt. Thank-you for clarifying [:)].

Turn 17 - 26th April 1940

I get messages that British Morale has dropped but then raised again as Churchill becomes PM. I'm also asked if I want to occupy Iceland and I say YES (cost of 25MPP).

I'm also told that the British mobilise in Egypt and get some extra troops. Italy joins the Axis....

I'm asked, as the Soviets, if I want to spend 50MPP to begin equipping for Winter warfare. Another no-brainer as far as I can see and I say YES.

Another quiet time on the convoy front.

Turn 18 - 10th May 1940

That was an eventful turn! The Italians declare war, the British get a pummelling and the Japanese notch up the pressure.

I thought it was going to be fairly quiet in the west as the Germans needed to re-build their units after the Low Countries campaign. However the Luftwaffe went to town against the British and French fighters and then, quite unexpectedly, the German 3rd Army appeared on the Belgian coast and almost wiped out the BEF. The German XVIII Corps then finished the job and advanced into the hex that was once occupied by the main unit of the British Army....

That leaves just two British Corps in the field. I wasn't expecting that to happen - not without the Germans even needing panzers....

Turn 18 - 10th May 1940

The Italians only move appeared to be on the Franco-Italian border. However, they appear to have got little return for their attacks - and indeed came off worse as III Corps tried to make progress along the coast but instead came up against a determined defence by the French XV Corps.
