So what is it now? France, Belgium or Holland?

My personal favourite would be visiting Bastogne and then with a chartered Bus on the same route the XXX Corps took to Eindoven, Nijmegen and finally to Arnhem.
We surely shoud get a bit further than the XXX Corps did.

Tracing the XXX corps is a great idea.

Holland is fine with me. Depending on how much time we allot for this, there might be room for a detour to the Normandy beaches as well? :p I mean, if I go half-way there, why not ALL the way?

While being at Lunch another idea crossed my mind (I get my best ideas while eating

). In September 2004 it's the 60th anniversary of Market Garden. I don't know if there are any festivities or reenactments held in that area, but maybe Cyricist can check that?

If it was just me, I would go all the way from Bastogne via Arnhem and Normandy to Saumur, but maybe we should first find a timeframe.
For me 3 or 4 days (over a weekend) would be OK, but I am one of those with much time :rolleyes:.
And then we could see what would fit in that timeframe, also financially.

Cyrisist, you'll have to check up on what Losqualo said. :p

Depending on what time of year, anything from a weekend to a week or more is ok. And depending on if I study or not. Studies tend to allow for longer breaks.

Any other people having ideas?

The xxx corps tour gets my vote. If we can combine it somehow with MG's 60th anniversary, that would be perfect. Would require at least a week, but it would make for a nice holiday.

Absolutely.

It'd be nice also to allow for some time at each location and not just rush it from place to place. I wouldn't want to miss out on the local restaurants and bars either. :p

Can do. AS well as travel agencies and good pricing. I can pull a few strings here and there (my best friend studies/works in the tourist industry). I think knowing our country as being very remembrance orientated there may be some kind of organisation planned for the aniversary.. I will keep an eye on things in that respect.

Jess.. Holland is a very SAFE country for teenagers.. and Amsterdam does not automatically equal weeklong knockouts on dope. And on the trail of XXX Corps, you'd be FAAAAAAAAR away from Amsterdam I assure you. And if Jen wants to come along, you could GUIDE her during a possible visit to Amsterdam, right? Nothing wrong there I'd figure. Heck I could show you guys around Amsterdam as well, skipping the coffeeshops (which you can find in any major town here and it really sin't that big of a deal!) alltogether.

Really, it's quite safe here for kids, I promise

normandy is not sooo important for me because i have visited already the most places there.

the germans could meet in koblenz btw. where is the "wehrtechnische studiensammlung" from there to the ardennes area it´s not that far away.

It's a good idea to visit the WS in Koblenz, that was one of my goals anyways. Do they still have the Sturmtiger?

So let's meet there, visit Bastogne and then follow the route of XXX. Corps on the 60. anniversary.

The next bigger Airport to Koblenz is in Frankfurt, wich lies on my route to Koblenz, so I could pick up max. 3 guys in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt is one of the hubs with service to Gothenburg/Landvetter, so that'd be an easy trip!

Uh guys? When you start planning things, keep an eye on the season, traffic jams in Western Europe are something to behold if your timing is off. That small trip from Arnhem to Normandy could take a lot longer then anticipated.

For what it's worth, I did the Airborne Museum in Arnhem, then to luxembourg and followed a part of KG Peipper (sp?) route to end in Bastogne and did some touring through the Bulge .

Definitely an eye opener, especially if you do it in the winter.
