The first six are different images that will appear when you load up the game, while the other two are alternative NATO counter sets.

Hello,
I have version 1.15 installed and selected Spires Hi Res for the 1939 campaign. When it is all loaded all the nations have the new counter styles except for Russia which still has the traditional counter styles. Is that normal or is there a way to fix this?
I sure would like to see this series be updated. Was one of the best games ever! Thx

This is a common and annoying occurrence for me too. Save the game and then re-load it. The new counters for the Soviets should display the second time around.

The Naval War Mod looks very interesting, but there isn't a reduction in capital ships as the mod states. Shouldn't I have half the number of capitol ship counters? Am I missing something?

I would also like to know more. Moreso it appears that Naval War mod was updated to 3.3 yet the one coming in the community pack is listed as 3.1.

Great game! I've collected the entire Strategic Command series, and I want to extend a big thanks to the developers.
That said, I've noticed an issue in the WWII game regarding naval strategy. It seems the most effective strategy is to build a lot of submarines, as they can defeat almost any ship, including BBs and CVs. DDs might counter them, but honestly, that's not a big deal. The whole thing doesn't look much realistic, right?
Also, the air battles between carriers feel like they could use some tweaking to make them more true to history.
Does anyone know if the Community Version fixes these things?
Thanks!

I think this has been one of the major ongoing complaints about the game. Inherently, when you are dealing with a strategic level game and naval combat occurring on the tactical level, the two will not blend well. A hex is 50 miles, but a battleship only fires 20 miles means there are going to be limits with a single unit per hex.
The ships are all basically the same, except for subs and carriers. It would be nice if escort ships could be allowed to intercept like an AA gun, or flagships be designated and act like HQ combat bonuses. But alas, there has been almost no changes in the naval area over the years.
However, some mods have tried to improve this area within the limits of the game engine. WaW has a "Naval Taskforce" mod. I created a Guadalcanal specific scenario with 2.5 mile hexes (check WaW mod forums) where each ship has different capabilities. More recently, I did another mod for Pacific where naval combat is completely rethought (as much as could be). You can find that mod here:

Happy gaming!

The naval war mod fixes this issue in my opinion
