Thank you, The Land, for managing the tournament.

ELO rankings after the first 10 games:

With only 10 games and most participants with one game only, these rankings are very likely to change. The 'win ratio' at this point is a stronger indication than the ELO ranking - that will cease to be the case once a larger number of games is played. But I thought best to post some to be going on with, so people can see how it's taking shape.

Code: Select all

     PLAYER ELO	Games	Won
 ElvisJJonesRambo 973 6	2
 Thunderlizard11 1,031 2	2
 Cpuncher 1,030 2	2
 EarlyDoors 999 2	1
HamburgerMeat* 1,026 1	1 (*starting ELO was 1010 reflecting position in the War in Europe ratings)
 DoXiTXxX 1,017 1	1
 LoneRunner 1,016 1	1
 Marcinos1985 984 1	0
 taffjones 984 1	0
 mcaughey 984 1	0
 GeneralKaos001 984	1	0
 amandkm 982 1	0

ELO game has ended:

[WIN] Cpuncher (Allies) defeats Fafnir (Axis)

A hell of a game. War was in July 1944 and could still go on for much longer. At the time, total armored (AT, LT, Tank and HT) losses for US, USSR, and Germany were 15, 28 and 20 respectively (just to show how brutal the war was).

Thanks for posting the losses board CP - notable that both GE and IT built a carrier, and that GE built several subs in addition to those it receives for free. Must have been an interesting game in the Atlantic.

I believe Germany didn't build any additional subs. There are 2 or 3 events that deploy subs for Germany, in addition to those already in the build queue. So 12 is the total number of subs Germany will get through the game.

Ooof!

Well this game will have a significant impact on the standings!

Would either player care to talk more about how it went?

Well, he's kicking my ass by avoiding the MedFront completely, and bluffs "one move" early on. He kicks the shit outta Kreigsmarine in mass force Denmark (done it twice now) exactly when the Luftwaffen is either busy in Russia or in MedFront expected the ambush there. Timing is everything.

80% of players like to ambush the Italians, so it's like facing a Left handed pitcher when you only play righties.

Cpuncher, HamburgerBun, Argentum are the real deal.

Hi Elvis and Cpuncher - just looking back over games to update the rankings. I have 4 games between you with Cpuncher as Allies the most recent 3 times, and all as Cpuncher victories. Is that correct, please?

There's a clear variable in talent. HamburgerBun, Cpuncher, Argentum have my number. Check my ElvisGoldRecords thread, I keep all my stats there.

Yep....just double checked, lost 4 times.

@TheLand --- Why do this manually? Wouldn't it make sense to job this to a "Ladder Keeper" website? Who wants to read all this extra traffic?

Setup a Ladder website, simple enough. You can manage the how ratings are calculated. I've played the most games. There's wide breadth of talent.

Great - thanks for confirming.

I'm not very familiar with those sites, though I just had a quick look at them. To my mind the advantages of the current system are, most important first:
- players commit to matches when they start, which helps increase the ratio that are completed.
- there is no separate registration needed, it all runs on this forum
- at least one person knows exactly what is happening with the rankings and how it all works, some of the other systems are not very transparent at all

Of course there are also disadvantages, and if someone wants to go to the effort of setting up another system that's all fine by me. So long as there is some kind of public log of matches and results, all systems are compatible. However, this tournament seems to be achieving its goals and it's scarcely any effort so I'm not in a rush to change systems.
