Brikilebritt:

First statement is that supply is traced to the individual units NOT through the HQs. HQs, however, will set the Supply Priority for their command.

1. no it will send these things out using trucks. The further you go the more wear and tear on the trucks.

2. The depot's trucks can be supplemented by trucks in the units but this will lower the unit's MP allowance for the upcoming turn.

3. Roads make it easier and less costly to deliver supplies to the units. Much as they lower the MP costs for motorized units.

4. If a unit is within three hexes of a depot it will not utilize trucks to gather their supplies - however the freight costs are doubled to represent the fodder and materials needed to use the wagons for the delivery.

5. I believe the parenthesis was the starting value.

6. Correct.

Thanks carlkay58 - big help![&o]

Thanks for the info. So, is there a reason to assign any combat support units to the army group or army levels?

As per WITE1, for Germany, no not really. Unless you really want some SU´s to potentially reach all subordinates, instead of fewer in corps. Or have them spread over a larger geographical area. Mostly you want to focus on corps level, since it increases the actual chance the SU will actually be used in combat at all.

But for the Soviets, most corps will be removed, and the Soviet Armies is the lowest level HQ mostly. So here is where you want to focus your Soviet SU´s. No corps means a slightly less chance for any SU´s to actually see use, but thats just one way the Red Army is weaker at the start of the war.

I doubt this logic have changed much into WITE2.

Hmm are you sure. On axis side I don't think army hq support units can participate in battles unless an CU is directly under command and within 5 hexes

@dudefan

you are correct combat SUs don't skip a HQ in the allocation process, they need to be in a HQ directly involved in the battle.

More generally, it is not true in WiTE2 that Soviet corps are removed, more accurately many convert to army level HQs (& since you can't build HQs this is an important resource)

The transport plane question is really interesting. Is there a disadvantage to move them to the map from a theater. They seem not to count? Same with construction units?

What does negative replacements mean in the unit supply details screen and commanders report screen? Does this represent a shortfall or does it mean they converted support units to rifle squads?

Some questions on air units:

1) Is there a way to move air units without all the clutter? For Example, at the start of the game NW Leningrad is way overstacked, but selecting units there, there's actually no way to right click on Pavlovo (1 hex to the east) to move units there. (the names of the air groups cover it, right clicking where it's supposed to be is right clicking on the name of the unit
2) Is there a way to target a specific airbase when moving? a little south of Leningrad is Gorelelovo, which is not targetable by itself, because it's surrounded by airbases.
3) Air units seems to be always locked in theaters if either Air or ground is lacking (because air units provide some help to ground value) whereas ground units can be moved if ground values are satisfied but air is not, is this intended behavior?

Edit:
4) One more thing around Air, Soviet T1, I have AI Assistant on, I hit the execute button, and basically nothing happens. All groups are in the suicidal ground support mode, air groups are not moved from soon-to-be encircled locations, and very few (if any) groups moved to reserve. What fiddly bits do I need to do to wake up the Assistant?

best advice to your first 3 is the manual esp 17.3.4. Saying that as to answer you I'd just do a huge cut and paste.

4 - have you set it up properly, what stance (retreat would be my choice), which HQs are they 'following', have you moved those HQs to where they will end the turn? My experience is the AI-assist (whichever method you use) does a really good job of sorting out the mess of the VVS on T1 - I'd often use even if afterwards I was going to revert to manual control as it simplifies the task

Does attacking out of range of a units HQ negatively effect combat values outside of not being able to receive support units? For example in the Leningrad scenario I like to start off by destroying fortifications using Security Units. I often dont follow them with their HQ as there are no supports units for them. Will this negatively effect them in combat?

Also im for the most part leaving the airwar to the AI and noticing it makes really bad decisions when it comes to resupplying via air transport. It seems like it will regularly send transports to resupply units that are surrounded by soviet fighters and get them shot down turn after turn. Is there a setting i should be messing with to fix this or should i just manually send air transports out or with escorts.

1. where/how can I set the target priorities for the AI air assist system (as in WitW)?

2. where is the button to automate the railroad repair?

Thanks! I can't find these in the manual or any tutorials.

You lose all the leadership rolls, and that can have a bearing not just in not getting SUs but also the commitment of in-unit elements. So I do the same, if its an easy big win, do it, but don't expect the security units to do much against even a by-passed Rifle Division

Axis transport AOGs can be hooked to any ground command (not just that of their controlling formation), so the best advice is to link them to a corps (or other HQ) that is lagging behind so they don't go to deliver supply to front line depots

1 - you don't, you tell the AI-assist where to concentrate, how to move your air assets etc, it generates what it thinks are suitable ADs (most likely a mix of recon and GS)

2 - you don't. The rail repair support units operate as per 21.6.1. your on map FBD/NKPS you move manually

Actually #1 is allowed via the Air Doctrine screen where you can set targeting priorities for Ground Attack and City Bombing.

I'd still really appreciate an answer to the effect of transfering supply and construction units with no combat value to and fro theater boxes.

I'm also curious what the number of AA units has on allied bombing in the Italy and WE Theater boxes. Is there any point to saturating europe with AA guns, or should they all be stripped out and assigned on map to German Cities where they have a documented benefit?

not a good idea, they are part of the garrison system (its not all keying off CV)

AA units are part of the system, so basically you run the risk of losing extra VP and/or seeing the allies advance more rapidly

Hmm. I called all transports and construction units to the map and never had a problem so far though.. if there is a disadvantage, it probably is insignificant.

The same with patrol planes if there is no naval aspect in the theater box.

AA counts, that is confirmed by my testing. In fact I believe it is a bit of an exploit because I stack my AAs in theater boxes and pull inf or even armour to the map and can keep the 100%.

So there are lots of 'Hidden' modifiers so to speak? Air CV, Naval CV, Land CV, and 'Other stuff' including AA guns, Transport Aircraft modifiers, is Rommel present in Africa, etc etc?

If so, could those be made less hidden? Or at least, are there bonuses for exceeding the modifiers or just penalities for going under them?

AA counts to ground I think

ok, thanks.

So, to clarify, there is no automated railroad repair in WitE2, but there is automated railroad repair in WitW?

its actually the same mix, you have a number of support units that do automatic repair and a number of manually moved units that you choose where to put and move across the map repairing as you do

Some more information on this would be clear, or this could lead to some explioty MP games.
