I think this shows that the Axis team has been pretty aggressive throughout most of the first Winter. Looks like we have had two turns off. Although the fall of Leningrad and the Karelian Isthmus may be hiding others. Losses in Axis Action Phase:

T-32 - LATE JANUARY 1942

The relentless blizzard rages on, but the Axis launch a surprise offensive and manage a breakthrough south of Rzhev, and almost reach the city before Soviet reserves are able to at least temporarily plug the gap.

Stalin's growing dissatisfaction with the results of the Red Army has reached a limit, and entire swathes of senior Generals and commanders are shipped off to the Gulag, or worse. All commanders of the Soviet team except the Chief of Staff is replaced. The new Soviet team is as follows:

Chief of Staff - Darojax
Air - Shaggy
North - Jango
Center - Beethoven
South - Alexey

(Previous Soviet commanders Belgavox (Center) and Erzac (South) are in good health and spirits, they left the Multiplayer game on fine terms.)

Fearful of their glorious leader, the new Soviet Generals immediately issue multiple attacks and offensives across the front, a move that is surprisingly successful. A Soviet counter-breakthrough north of Velikie Luki manages to penetrate the front some 30 miles in one week, and in the south a series of daunting assaults and moves manage to rout several german and an axis minor unit. Losses are high, but at the cost of victory instead of defeat; Stalin seems more stable.

All in all this week the Axis launch 18 Attacks, the Soviet 44.

It is worth noting that turn 32 was the first turn where Soviet troops had supply priority 4. Better supply helps CV, and therefore makes it easier to attack (and also defend).

T-33 - 1st week of February, 1942

Axis defenses north of Velikie Luki appear weak and the Soviets are not sitting on their hands waiting to exploit. North East of Orel the Soviets launch another mass assault managing to breach the Axis lines.

The Axis hit back hard all across the front. It's a slugfest, but the superior training of the German units ensure to keep the casualty scales against the Soviets.

T-34 - Early February 1942

The Soviet Winter offensive grinds on; the Red Army continues to put pressure on the blizzard-struck Axis lines.

With weather being fit for air operations in the very south, the VVS suddenly launches a series of attacks on Kerch airfield, destroying more than 50 x Rumanian Bf-109E on the ground.

T-36 - Late February 1942

In the white icy haze that is the harsh winter of 41/42, the Soviets manage to maneuver and encircle almost 10 German Infantry Division across the front. The coming weeks will tell if it's merely a temporary inconvenience for the Germans, or a sign of something more sinister...

What happened to turn 35 ?

Also I must have missed seeing Leningrad fall, 10 DIV's that may hurt.

Can anyone say or tell did the Finns join the battle or did the city fall to late for them.

No AAR for T-35 due to undisclosed reasons.

The Finns did indeed join the battle; some of their formations spotted a couple of hundred miles WSW of Moscow.

There's been some reorganizing among the general staff of both teams, which currently look as follows:

If you're interested in joining this game as Axis Air Marshal send me a PM.

T-37 - Early March 1942

The Germans pay a high price for underestimating the Soviet winter offensive capabilities as 3 German Infantry Divisions are surrounded and forced to surrender at Zapadnaya Dvina near Velikie Luki. East of Kharkov another German Infantry Division is in trouble as that too has been surrounded.

The VVS has become very active making serious contribution to the Axis loss rate, while at the same time losing around 900 planes. The Soviets continue to make some headway in the center-south and south, elsewhere on the frontline the Germans seem to manage a somewhat stable defense. The constant snowing continues and forecast says blizzard may return next week.

A number of key cities under threat including Kharkov and Smolensk, looks like another German DIV trapped against The Sea Of Azov coastline too.

While historically it was the Centre that The Germans lost most of there gains during the first winter, game wise to me even against the AI the South gets smashed worse.

To much open terrain where tanks can run wild.

Unfortunately, not. That is a regiment and a Romanian (I forgot whether the Romanian is a brigade or a division)

Shame to see this end - I think it is a good achievement to even get this far with a team game!

Love the maps also - if you ever have the time/inclination it would be great to see you AAR one of your own games :) !
