Very interesting thread. As a "young guy" (US Army vet, 35, with kid 3 due this week) I own the game, but have struggled with all the ins and outs of installation and tackling the game. I've read almost every AAR on the forum and find it deeply enjoyable to read about others exploits. The game is intimidating for both basic technical reasons as well as the sheer complexity, but that complexity also is the appeal of why I have gravitated this direction from Hearts of Iron which feels so flat in comparison. I own many Matrix titles and found WITE1 & 2 very accessible and will add that I purchased the hard copy WITE2 manual and read it cover to cover, so I don't mind digging into manuals to learn what's under the hood. I found WITW to be less accessible than the WITE titles, and now WITP:AE, which has the best AARs and a great community, still feels very inaccessible to actually get to grips with.
I'd love a remaster to incorporate more of the mod updates I read about on the forum or map changes and help me figure out why my installs dont seem to work right. I have a high end Alienware gaming laptop and this game is VERY laggy for me, I've assumed I am doing something wrong or need to patch the game manually perhaps, but candidly find it easier with my limited free time to enjoy others exploits than wrestle with solving the issues I'm experiencing. Great to see Matrix engage on a great title. I have posted a little on WITE2 that I'd love to see more of the WITP:AE air system in that game with WITE2's ground combat, the ground combat in WITP seems the hardest to understand and manage from an outsiders perspective. Thanks guys, love lurking and reading other's wisdom. Just wanted to give my .02 cents as a relative outsider looking in who has owned the game for years now without learning it.
Welcome! Your game is probably lagging because you are not using the command line functions that fix this.

Try: -fd -skipVideo -deepColor -multiaudio -archive -altFont -cpu1 -px2048 -py1152
I have a high end machine and this works great for me!

Hi, and welcome. If you need help setting up the game, use the "Seabee Utility". That program has helped a lot of new players get going. Also, by in large, the community here is great. So don't shy away....GP

Just another thought, if there is an agreed-on set of mods and an agreed on best version, we could potentially create a "community pack" update installer of sorts that would make getting the base WITP-AE loaded up with that set of changed files much easier and add that as a Members Club download.

I think that is a great idea!
Also, that could include some of the outside utilities if the owners of those would agree.

I myself nowadays play exclusively DaBabesLite (since it is compatible with new AI additions).
This is pretty impressive initiative and very much appreciated.
And plus, very proud to be mentioned on thread. My AAR is now bit outdated, but glad it has help new players to get into "real game", which is of course Grand Campaign. It is exclusively Allied though, which I think is side new player should get familiar with before getting into Imperial Japanese economics.

That might just be for doing the Japanese first turn in a campaign game . . . [;)]

Just a thought I spent a hour or so tweaking a slew of mods to work with GME mod swapper. I can make the zips available if interested. Using GME takes seconds to load and swap mods.

For the Luddites amongst us this would be wonderful. In past I have spent hours fumbling with these problems, even with the kind help on tech forum. The Seabee utility was a god send. Up-gunning to better maps and art has always been hit and miss for me.
Cheers

I agree with RJ. I think with perhaps a revised or more user-friendly guide to the all-important command line, this would go a long way towards helping new and returning players to not get intimidated at install. I had to reload WITP:AE on a new PC recently and it had been so long it took some diligence getting my WW2 ducks in a (BB) row.

That is where the SeeBee utility would come in handy.

There is so many mods and not all of them are setup to be used with GME, I have made a small dent in correcting that.
Here are the ones I have 'corrected', 'fixed' or made to be used by the GME swapper tool.

Zovs, sorry but I have to plead ignorance regarding this GME swapper tool.
Can you elaborate? Somehow I missed the memo on what it is, etc. Thanks.

The full acronym is JSGME or "Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler". It is a utility that allows one to easily use swap mods in and out of a game once said mods have been configured properly. That configuration of the mods is what Zovs was talking about a few posts up.
Essentially, a mod is configured into a 'package' which can then be enabled AND disabled gracefully via JSGME by moving the mod between two columns. JSGME keeps track of the changes a mod would make and makes backups of the original files, as applicable, so that a mod's changes can be undone if needed. This is especially helpful when there are multiple authors creating complex mods for the same game which can and often do conflict with one another (i.e. both mods need to change the same file(s) to work).
JSGME allows players to experiment with mods in a relatively safe manner and when there are conflicts and to back out of one or more of the applicable mods until a solution is found. Usually, if the will to do so is there, the solution is the mod author(s) figure out which file(s) are the issue, then they create special versions of those files which incorporate the changes from multiple mods. This can result in the creation of mega compilation mods where a collection of popular mods are put into a single package to ensure they all play well together.
The modding community for the Silent Hunter series of games is an example of JSGME being used extensively to great effect. You can find download links (free registration required) for JSGME itself, as well as, many guides regarding its use over at the
SUBSIM forums. If you just want JSGME itself, downloads for it can be found many places online which don't require registration.
EDIT: Zovs beat me to it

+1 to what Voltreffer has well said.
I “repackaged “ all those mods in my screen shot above (have 3-4 more to do), I plan to zip them up and share if anyone wants them.
GME makes swapping out a mod safe and a breeze!
