Look what I just found. And it started the game that way. I think I'll import the *.sal file into the editor and place that unit on the map and continue the game from there. That will reset the game turn back to T1 but I can live with that.

After I made my change I saved it with the same *.sal filename. Then when I tried to "Load Game" I got this error message:
I'm going to have to change the scenario and do a re-start.

I think this is the way it's supposed to be. I stopped playing my match well before 1943 but I suspect these units are placed on the map by event. You'll find there's one in every panzer division. I suggest you keep playing from your last save and don't worry about it.
In any case this unit would definitely not arrive until 1943 which would be about turn 180. As you note you've never played past turn 40 before so absolute worst case scenario is you play for four times longer before anything goes wrong.

Wow, just read through your Workshop AARs from back when the game was released. Those were quite good Larry, I learned a lot!

Too late....I've already restarted and I was going to start posting stuff when I arrived at the new T7 spot and continue from there.

Good, I'm glad you got some value out of all that verbage. Thank you for your kind words. I'll try to make my AAR's interesting and informative and funny. Entertaining in it's own way.

I was planning on playing to T7 and THEN start posting stuff again but then I had a second thought and decided you guys might want to see what I'm up to on the restart. Here's what it looks like on round 3 after two combat phases have taken place.

This is what it looks like in
round 4 down south. I'm pushing the Soviets backward and surrounding others and making some good progress.
I have only a few bombers that are still on line. The rest of them are yellow and resting after so many airfield strikes. Several Soviet aircraft units ( 5 or 6 ) have evaporated so far and I have 8 bombers that still have enough health to do one more airstrike so I anticipate sinking some more Soviet aircraft yet. Once the Soviet aircraft are gone I can use my remaining active 30+ fighters to do INT instead of AS to stiffle the escape of any Soviet remnants.

How well do fighters do INT?

I haven't seen any Soviet units evaporate while moving if that's what you're asking. They are not
A-10's either judging from the effect they are having. You know how some unit embarked on a rail will sometimes disembark and lose all it's
MP's when it gets interdicted? My aircraft seem to never cause that. I suspect a bomber might but so far the aircraft are just pissing off the Soviets and making them detour or pull off the road and hide under the trees for 1/2 an hour. I would have expected more from the
Me-109E/F. It's got an anti-armour of
3 so I would have used them for
CS in a pinch but from what I'm seeing they aren't doing much of anything at all. Maybe gaining some experience and maybe a rare point in proficiency or something. It's like I'm just burning avgas and not getting much bang from it.
YMMV but I'm disappointed a tiny bit.
But on the other hand there's some good news. My
R&D boys are working on a
synthetic fuel for all my aircraft. The best avgas we have right now is about
85-89 octane and the allies are burning
115 octane from what my intelligence boys are telling me. So they are getting more muscle from their engines than we are. Kurt tells me they think they will have a breakthrough in about
2 weeks. He told me that
2 weeks ago too. I suppose it'll get done when it gets done.
Also, they have come up with a plan to put radio equipment on balloons and use them as a sort of poor man's
GPS. Got a whole team working on the electronics needed to decode and interpret the signals from the balloons and triangulate the position of the receiver unit. They have gotten the error down to about
5 kilometers so far. We're looking for something closer to
100 meters. Carl said he's pretty sure they can do it. He says it'll take about
2 weeks.
Also, I have a small team working on night vision goggles. Eric tells me they will have a working prototype in about
2 weeks.
I hired a new dispatcher / manager to encourage / manage the teams. Her name is
Cecily:

I have decided to reveal my new factory 10km to the south of
Berlin which combines R&D and manufacturing in the same facility. It has rail service to transport the supply containers [ as seen in the forground toward the bottom left of the image where there are several large stacks of containers of differing colors ].
The containers will be unloaded onto a conveyer that will take the incomming supplies up to the assembly floor and the finished products will be conveyed to the railroad marshelling yard where railcars will be loaded with containers of finished products on flat rail cars
8 containers to each rail car. This is the process: the trains will arrive, be unloaded, transfered to the outgoing rails, be loaded with finished products and leave an hour later. Fast turnaround will enhance efficiency. We make small arms, field guns, scout vehicles, armoured cars, trucks, and aircraft spare parts of every description. Now that you have had this revealed to you I must kill you. Sorry for the inconvienience.

It's now
T3 round
5 and I finally captured
Riga so it's going well in the north. The supply level is
10 at the tip of the spear but should rise slowly in subsequent turns. I have three security divisions that will clear out the peninsula next turn. I captured the crossing at
Jenkabpils and expect to have the crossing at
Daugavpils next turn.

This is just above the marshes and shows the progress toward
Minsk so far. In the next couple of turns I expect to get a good surround started on the city itself and capture it in
T6 or so. The supply level is
15 at the tip of the spear mostly because the Corps HQ's and RR engineers have been keeping up with the front lines pretty well.

It's now early in
T4 and this is what the
Minsk area looks like right now. I'm trying to finish a surround on some Soviet units to help take them down and then after they are gone I can start a surround on
Minsk itself. The supply level is
16 at the front because the rails are keeping up with the advance so far. The Soviets have started to counterattack already. So I need to protect my recon units better than I have in the past. In this area the Soviets are sparce leading up to
Minsk but Elmer has started building a screen on the west side of the city and I'm sure there's units in the city itself even though we can't see them yet. My theater recon value is
35% which isn't high enough to see very far. The cloud cover is about
3/10 and very few Soviet units are under clouds and none are underneath a rainstorm so my
CS performers are doing an excellent job. I'm trying to uncover airfields as I move so that I can move my fighters even further toward the front to cover those units that move. This will tend to stop the Soviet interceptions after the first couple of strikes. I've noticed that some of my fighters default to "
rest" status instead of the
AS setting I had them on after a Soviet interdiction strike. So after each strike I need to survey all my planes on rest to examine all the green ones to see if they can be reset on
AS. My cutoff is
53% so that aircraft units at that value or below get "rest" as their status. I only strike with the "green" planes. I believe that cuts down on losses. That's the theory.

I have yet to learn how to drive anything besides MSPaint. There are a lot better tools out there but I'm too busy wargamming to worry about them.

It's now
T5 and this shows what I'm doing in the
SE of
Riga area right now. I've driven some troops through the
Riga crossing and then
SE to clear all the crossings south of
Riga. I'm also driving some units north along the coastal road and some units are headed
NE toward
Pskov. And in the bottom edge of this image I'm driving some of my units to the east to protect the right flank of my advance.

It's now
T5 round 2 and this shows what I'm doing down south. The
Hungarians are clearing out the mountains and the
Romanians are clearing out the
Bessarabia and will soon reach
Odessa. The supply level is
10 at the front and the weather is good.
