In the center there is not that much pressure and I continue my slow retreat. But note there are actually not that many Soviet units here as most reinforcements have gone south and I think I was lulled into a sense of security here which is always stupid when facing the Germans in 41

.
I am sloppy with my screenshoting forgot the south this time

Again missed a turn with screen shots so we jump to the end of August.
The Germans are fighting to get to Leningrad but so far the defense holds up pretty good.

In the south some German units try to pocket some of my units so full extraction going on. Still holding on to D-town since there are no German units that far south.

Considering there are basically no Germans in the far south I have no idea how I lost the entrance to the Crimea but I did

. Well done by the Axis HQ.

It was with Germano-Romamian offensive using German paratroopers dropping in the rear.
Actually it was a little reckless! But since it worked, it changes from
reckless into
daring.

Around Leningrad 4 German mech units try to force their way into Leningrad but my main defenders while losing some strength do not retreat so I could switch around and send another fresh unit into the line. With only one more turn of good weather it seems that Leningrad can hold at least this year.

In the center I retreat some more and looks like Moscow will survive 1941 too. I try to gather more and better unit for the defense of the capital. Still so many 1-5 inf corps around

And the south. Not much happening as there are not that many Germans here. Crimea and Sevastopol is gone anyway thats for sure.

In Africa I advance my forces a little bit. This move was actually supposed to be in a conjunction with an invasion of Vichy North Africa. The plan was to land 2 corps around Tunis to take it, one corps land and capture fortress and port at the Libyan border. 1 divison to land on the third Tunisian port and then also land 2 divisions one in Oran and one on the small port in Algeria. For a number of turns I tried to position my units sitting on transports losing effiency but the very nice control by the Italian airforce around Tunis I just did not manage to get it right so in the end with the tail between the legs I sent all the units back to where they came from. Uk and Egypt mostly.

I really took less and less screen shots. Not that much happening. Here you can see the troops coming back to England after abandoning the invasion in Africa. But as Terminator says "I will be back!" and as you will see fairly soon.

Here is the frontline in November. Leningrad held but Moscow is only two hexes away from the Germans and Crimea and Sevastopol is lost but the advance in the south is a bit short compared to history but a fairly historical outcome I think we can say. The front line moved a little bit after this especially south of Moscow as the Axis attacked a fair amount even in bad weather.
Soviet XP at this point was 42 land and 41 air. I reached 50 land xp in January 42. Manpower in November was 88% but since I spend the winter building units I expect it to go down quite a lot next coming month.

South of Moscow there is a little bit of fighting with the Germans attacking as well but no major front movement. Difficult with the weather being what it is.

And not unlike history just a bit earlier I focus mostly on attacking axis minors which occupy a large part of the southern part of the front.

Happy New Year alternative 1942
1941 comes to an end. Here are the casualties and forces situation. Not sure if there is anything out of line to comment on. It looks fairly standard I think. Comparing with the other game I would say that I have lost pretty few escorts and also lost a little less MM.

Reading through the bits about making the Russians able to hold on through '41-'42 but there have been so many patches. I always had issues with holding the line as the Russians and would usually get steamrolled by various German Strategies. I have seen a few players over 'different patches' hold usually by committing the Allies to strong offensives/delaying France/Putting heavy pressure on Italy.
Since a lot of patches have weakened the Western Allies I am not sure how that plays now in this current patch or most recent patches. I have had a hard time holding on to Germany and or Italy some time ago. I really put all in as well trying to do just that with little hope of it. Really intelligent Aggression is real key for a good Allied Strategy meanwhile the Germans really need to play more conservative. I think it's easier to play the Axis but the Allies can win just requires a very good player who has a great grasp on where to put pressure on and draw out the Germans. It's possible... I don't think any patches were required at that point where I was at in game balance terms.(now I assume France is easier to take/Amphibious Landings all over the Place do not take place)

Nice to see you back to the game. Not sure if I see any question here but I can give a short view of the status of the game as I see it.
France is easier then its been in a long time. 3 hex retreat, shatter units do not die, nerf of French airforce, nerf of UK size land forces and no building mech/arm units and starting German subs better then ever all contributes to that.
I guess 8 of 10 games France will fall last turn of July to first turn of August. german losses after the Fall of France I think will be something like 110-160 land and 70-120 air which is fine.
East front in 41 I think works out fine now as you can see in the 2 aars I am doing now. But 1942 seems to me it can still be bad for the Soviets as maybe it should be. Should be a little bit better now with Soviet mech units get 7op in March 42 in the latest patch.
Western allies are alot weaker. UK more pressed by the subs means not that much room to build huge amounts of landing ships. Unit by unit they are so much weaker than the German units and with supply restraints in Africa it is hard to make any superiority in number of units to really make any difference.
Taking out Italy if defended correctly I find almost impossible. We havent seen many late games but I think in 44 maybe I doubt it will fall in 43. Put a German corps in Rome and Taranto and any other important Italian city hex and good luck to the allies to try and move it.
I agree with the line German play conservative is probably important. If you over attack and weaken your army too much in Russia in 41 the Soviets will have an easier time in the winter to harvest xp and improve its units while also taking lower losses. I still believe that Germany possibly is a bit too strong but we have to see with the changes the last patch did. I am mostly interested how the Subs will be doing but also east front now with the improved Soviet mech units.

Thanks for these AARs, not much else going on on the forums, they are a nice read.
Let me know if you ever want to play a couple of games MM.
