Go to any framed website, hit F5 or click refresh and you´ll notice that the whole page get´s refreshed, that´s in the nature of frames.

Yeah.....but that's NOT what it's doing, or I wouldn't have mentioned it. Go to a forum before you've selected a thread. What I'm trying to do is see if any of the threads have a new response, so instead of backing out and getting back in I use F5, and it SHOULD stay on that screen and show me anything new (like dates for example, or a new thread at the top), but instead it knocks me completely out of that screen and back to the home page. This is not normal! The worst this thing should do is not update the screen because maybe I haven't touched the right bit, but usually you're in the right bit if you hit refresh right after you moved into that screen from another, but obviously it recognises what I'm doing only it's behaving more like a "home" function. IOW, in that screen, the F5 key goes 'home' NOT updating the screen. It does the same thing on this W2000 as it does on my XP at home. I've never used a refresh anywhere and that function send me to the home page. This problem is tiotally new to this website, since the changeover that is. Understand?

That's right, F5 won't work without kicking you back to the main forum.
However, in the forum window, right-klick and select "refresh". That will reload the thread only, at least it works for me.

No it´s not, it´s the very basics of "frames" since their invention. Maybe I havn´t been clear enough in the earlier reply. When you go to a website that uses frames (like the forums do, or our main website) the standard
active frame is the frameset telling the browser of which frames the website consist. If you now just click F5 then the
active frame is refreshed (by default the frameset). Now if you mark an specific frame
active and click refresh then that very active frame is refreshed. You can only activate another frame by right clicking into it. That´s how browsers work, they simply (sad as it is) don´t track where your mouse is and make that the "active" area.
F5 or the browsers "Refresh" button on the navigation bar are only basic refresh tools, that only refresh the top level of a website, in our case the Frameset.
Understand?

Marc, the problem for people here is that there is absolutely no way you can select the thread as an active frame. With some frames, you can make a selected frame active by klicking in it. That doesn't work for the forums.
So: right-klick and select "refresh" is the only way to do it.

That´s what I´m saying since days.

Yes, I did try that earlier, and it did work, but if someone knows how to fix the F5 not working it should be fixed. It's far too common an approach to refreshing to be left as-is.

Comprende compadre. The only problem,,, well try it yourself. Go to the main page, click forums, logon, then hit F5 on the next screen. IOW, at that portion it should refresh at least the majority of the page, should it not? It certainly shouldn't be sending you three screens backwards. Are you saying that having frames, which I don't totally understand, changes everything drastically, at least as far as F5 goes? The vast majority of pages I go to, including the former one here, didn't knock you to the home page, even if I was doing it, what you might say, incorrectly, it would simply 'not update' what I was expecting to update, which of course would prompt me to select a specific area instead. I must say I didn't know there was any difference between using an F5, a pull down refresh, or an RMB refresh but I can see your point. So if there's anything wrong at this point, maybe it's just that I don't understand frames, but it seems that an F5 however so incorrectly used shouldn't result in what it is doing.

At the top of your internet browser (not the Matrix window) there should be a toolbar button that says "REFRESH". If it's not there then go to the "View" menu button and there should be a "refresh" command there. I'm assuming you are using some form of Windows?

You simply right click somwhere on the forums frame, there where the threads are. Then you click on the menu that comes up:
Internet Explorer: Refresh
Netscape or Mozilla: T
his frame ->
Reload Frame

That is the "refresh" that won't work, since it'll reload the main frame = the main forum.
Read Marcs' reply - right-klick ANYWHERE in the forum thread, choose "refresh".

In the "for what its worth" department, my 'other' employer - a major defense contractor - has issues a statement today that it is working on figuring out the reason for mysterious delays and inaccessability to many of its internet hosted database apps.
There appears to be something going going on with the net that is affecting more than just our little forum.

The latest "Symatec Security Response" sounds pretty concerned. The latest two worms have wreaked havoc at some places, even if MS claimed that is didn´t hurt them

The browsers have some very powerful tools, you just need to figure out how to use them. The F5 key is working as it should, just not the way you wish.

I posted that last week and that was the post that disapeared.
The net is slow because of So Big and the two major worms.
