I find myself encouraged that Mogami is averaging approximately 30 minute turns. I realize that for us humans (I'm convinced Mog is Vulcan) it will take longer to process a turn, but at least this gives me hope that I will be able to play at least one turn a night...

One of the reasons I'm dissappointed that the WITP game won't have a "team"
mode is that I think it's going to take more than one person to keep up with
Mogami by then.

Did you change you unit attachment in any way or did you keep the units attached to the army attached to historically?
There is one intel report. Do they only appear weekly or monthly or the like?

Hi, 915am est I begin a new turn 1 scenario 15 as Japan. Or would you like to try allies? (another tester?)

I am a bit concerned that the ground combat is now a little too hard for the attacker. I do not want to go back to UV ground combat which was an attackers paradise, but this seems a little to WW1-ish.

Does the game system use up suuplies in Bataan at a more or less historical rate? In UV it sometimes seemed that you could take Port Moresby and the beach next door and have the entire allied garrison retreat to Wau and live for ever on the bit of supply they took with them.

I think you should play as the allies against the computer and let us see how that looks.

thanks,
Mike

His report says two of them did (including the Pennsylvania in drydock---which
still seems pretty strange)

I believe they said that the coding was just immpossible to make the Pennsylvania unsinkible in drydock (consider it just so messed up it isn't worth fixing) the other problem with the attack is that the BB on the inside row couldn't have been torpedoed, there was another ship in the way, but I guess coding that would be a nightmare too

Yeah, that bothered me when I first started reading AARs from WITP, then I decided that it wasn't a battle worth fighting. It's an abstraction that I can accept. Now if they had twenty years to develop the game we could beg for the ability to zoom the view down to watching the a/c take off the carriers and follow them to their targets, all of which would take place on a 3d map of the world with a working weather/tide model. I'll happily accept the UV engine...

Oh....you don't want that? Ok...its cut. Too bad it was really cool.

Air attack on 4th New Chinese Corps, at 49,37

Japanese aircraft
Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 4
Ki-21 Sally x 13

greetings,
sorry to interupt AAR, but those Tojo's makes me little bit confused.[&:] Isn't little bit to early for Tojo?
I've checked several sources and found no use of Tojo in the 1941...actually, there is only few prototyps in late 1941 but it is Ki-44-I...

"The pre-production aircraft and two of the prototypes (which had been brought up to pre-production standard) were turned over to the Army for service trials on September 15, 1941. They were handed over to an experimental squadron, the Kawasemi Butai, for service trials. The unit was sent to China for combat trials, and in May 1942 was renamed 47th Dokuritsu Dai Chijugo Chutai. In September of 1942, all tests were completed and the type was accepted for service with the JAAF.

Three variants of the Model 1 were produced, the Ki-44-Ia, Ib, and Ic. They differed primarily in armament and in minor equipment changes. The Ki-44-Ia was fitted with 2 7.7-mm machine guns in the fuselage and two 12.7 mm machine guns in the wings. The Ki-44-Ib was armed with four 12.7-mm machine guns (two in the fuselage, two in the wings), and had the oil cooler moved to a position under the cowling gills. The Ki-44-Ic had similar armament to the Ib, but had the lower hinged portions of the main wheel fairings moved from the landing gear legs to the fuselage.

The Shoki was first encountered by the Allies over China. It was assigned the code name Tojo by Allied intelligence working in that theatre. This name was a departure from the standard Allied coding convention, in which boys' names were assigned to Japanese fighters. However, a special request was made that the Tojo name should be allowed to stick, and all coordinating Allied intelligence agencies readily agreed.

Only 40 production Ki-44-Is were built before production was shifted to the more-powerful Ki-44-II variant in October of 1942. "

Am I missed something?[&:]

Hi you answered your own question. The unit in China has 9 aircraft. The model is not in production so there are no replacements. WITP uses the -II model because there is no major difference between -I and -II.
The game has to do alot of abstraction in places. Here we have a model that did not enter production till late 1942 doing a field service test.

I really like this idea [:)] where the Japanese get to use proto-type aircraft in small numbers in actual combat before starting production. Hopefully this will help you decide which aircraft types to put into production.

Question:
What happens to future air groups if you never put a their aircraft types into production? Let's say you build KI-44 's instead of KI-43's what happens to all of those air groups that were supposed to have KI-43s???

Aircraft upgrades

Posted: Tue Mar 30, 2004 7:10 pm
by mogami
Hi, The aircraft a group (Japanese or Allied) can fly is limited to the type they arrive on map with and the type they are allowed to change (upgrade) to. You cannot retro fit an airgroup that has upgraded and you cannot change the model the group is allowed to upgrade to. In some cases I select "do not upgrade" and then continue building 1 model rather then begin building a newer one (This applies mainly to Japanese transport groups where the newer aircraft have a much shorter range then the type being flown at start. Range is more important to me then the increased load) Most Ki-27 Nate groups upgrade to the Ki-43-II (a few upgrade to Ki-43-I) there are a few that upgrade to Ki-44. The A6M2 upgrade to A6M3 (and then A6M5)

great!

Thx for clarification and additional help /tips/hints (as always you do[:)].

If i'm not getting too greedy, did you make experiment with Ki-44-II (IIIb,c if it presented in game) performance against B-29. From what I know Tojo (Shoki) was best option against B-29?
