As I said, my concern is if my download is corrupted. In other words completed but not working properly.

I guess those words didn't come from your keyboard and get posted under your id eh?
This only seems to address interrupted downloads not corrupted ones.

Neither did those ones either eh?
The purchasing options and lack of info on them in the appropriate places come off pretty crappy to me.

Nor did that?

Hmm, I guess someone must be using your id. Better change your password. [8|]

And these comments "insult" Matrix and accuse Matrix that "they will rip me off" how?

You win the prize for ultimate fanboy, boy.

Nothing particularly wrong with that. Thanks [8D]

One thing I can say here is that Matrix will work with you if you experience problems. All you have to do is send an email to their support address and/or post your problem in the appropriate forum. They will get back to you and will help. Matrix wants and needs a satisfied customer base since the one they cater to is small to start. I had problems getting KP to run on my computer and they worked with me and we got the problem resolved.

I don't doubt that for a minute. I certainly never thought that they wouldn't deal with me honestly.

At the same time though, I've been caught in the cracks after a purchase in the past. If there's a problem, will I be dealing with Matrix, Digital River or whoever runs the store?

I also realize the odds are very good that the download would go smoothly. I still like to know my options.

Until today, I expected to pre-order it exactly like I did UV. This whole download thing is a surprise to me and not a pleasant one. For $70 plus shipping, I expected a boxed game; not just the right to have it reside on my hard drive. I don't like the options and as the customer I feel I have the right to let my preferences be known. Matrix doesn't have any obligation to meet my preference but it may be in their business interest to hear what I've got to say on the subject.

If you can't download a couple hundred megs in 30 days, it is time to find a easier hobby, like perhaps knitting.

Heya Frag, you might want to lighten up just a tad... I have tried to find out ordering information from Matrix games E-store and when I hit the link to "Coming Soon" I get an "Invalid Operation" error. Therefore, some of us are not able to see the posted information. This is one reason that some of us old curmudgeons are hesitant to spend our money on a "digital download" - we know that across the wires things can go wrong.

With a 56k dialup that never connects faster than 33.6k, I would assume that it would take many hours (if not days) to download WITP (that is assuming that I have nothing else to do during that time). I have no problem with waiting for a snail mail order to bring me my CD, but I will say that paying an extra $10 for the CD will irk me, unless that includes shipping and handling (the CD being part of the handling). I will still buy the game, but I will not be as happy with the customer service. Paying an extra $10 for a printed manual is reasonable, but not paying extra for a hard copy of the software. I have had too many long downloads fail in the past (an eight hour download that failed at 98% complete is an excellent example - this does not make one very happy), to fully trust a multi hundred megabyte download over my connection.

If you're going to tell me that I need a new hobby, I could say the same to you. I have been very impressed with the quality of most of your responses on this board, but every now and then you (like many of us) take a step too far towards the darkside. I am not saying that I don't trust Matrix; they have given me every reason to trust them over the years. But it is the format of digital download that I do not trust, and I prefer to receive something concrete for my money.

Okay guys, to settle this once and for all:

1. You will have the option to either download or get a hard copy, or both.
2. You have enough time to make sure you download the complete game if you choose the download option.
3. The downloads are resumeable, in case they´re accidently interrupted.
4. You are allowed to burn a personal backup copy if you only choosed the download.
5. The game will be sold at Origins and it´s boxed.
6. The CD on demand / backup option will give you a labeled CD. Not just a silver CD with the files on it. (And I hope that Digital River has it possibly by then that you also get a box)
7. The game will not come with a printed manual. You get two versions of the 220+ pages main manual (one for print in US Letter size and one for on screen reading), you get an 80+ pages Tutorial (US Letter) and a big Game Editor manual (US Letter). All as PDFs on the CD.
8. Your options and the procedures in case anything goes wrong with your purchase are described in the E-Shop under "Customer Service" and "Help". Please also read this.
9. You will be dealing with customer support of either Digital River or Matrix Games in case anything goes wrong. This depends on the problem. Please make sure to read the procedures in the E-Shop under "Customer Service" and "Help".

Thanks

Im just glad the option of Digital Download is available as it lets gamers around the world get their hands on WitP a lot faster than the mail option.
When UV first came out i had to buy it direct from the US and wait by the postbox for the several days it took to arrive.Cant wait to get the game as it seems like an eternity since it was first announced and it looks like Matrix and 2by3 Games have a winner on their hands.[:D]

Marc, thanks for the response. I think that you took my post a little hard, but that's okay. However, I still don't see any information on how the order for the game on CD is handled, even checking your "Customer Service" page of the E-store. It says that the backup CD is available only as part of the DL purchase, not as a stand alone order. Does this mean that we can't just order a copy of the game? I am assuming that it means that we have to purchase the DL version, and maybe just not try to download the game, rather just wait for our CD to arrive. It doesn't say if there is an additional charge for the CD, beyond shipping and handling. I don't care if there is no box, that's just a waste of paper. I would prefer to just plain order the game without having to deal with digital download, but if that is not the choice I will begrudgingly accept that.

Another point not fully discussed yet: will the manual be available from the Document Store? I hope so.

Thanks for your responses.

Will digital download be available for 56K modem users or just DSL or better?

330 MB download = 18-20 hours at 48K +

Matrix is not likely to care which button you click. If you want to download it overnight, thats your choice. You are the customer. Bear in mind though (been through this before) modem users generally get hammered by broadband users when a new release comes out. *expect* the download sites to be *very* busy and *very* rough. There really is not way around the fact that a couple hundred people start pulling a large file all at the same time. No one has unlimited bandwidth (spoken by someone with 200 Gigabit links that get saturated).

Still don't know the size and whether it will be broken up into more then one file. The code has not been packed yet. [:D]

Stay tuned.

1. You will have the option to either download or get a hard copy, or both.

You simply purchase the product from the e-store and select your prefered options. When you select the CD on demand option you will still be able to download it. Only if you want of course, nobody is forcing you to download.
