I welcome the dicussion on the Civil War.

What might have been helpful for the Confederates would have been to get its hands on (through stealing raids) the repeater rifle which a few Union cavalry units had.
These units had a fearsome firepower.

Just imagine what an out numbered Confederate Army could have done in a defensive position with the repeater rifle. It would have evened the odds considerably.

Repeaters were not widely used for two main reasons,
1 was the cost and $37 to $65 where as a musket only cost $ 10 to $20.
2 was the fact that the army didn't like the idea of the high rate of fire. ( The normal load out for a civil war soldier was 40 rounds)
