It is an American cartoon, "Dexter's Laboratory", I think it's called. Mandark is probably the hero (Dexter's) archnemesisisisisis...

If I'd put an "'s" after Dexter, it would have been clearer.

Like I said earlier, Montgomery was fixated on Market-Garden at this time, which swallowed up ALL of British 2nd Army. It was HIS BIG MOMENT (tm), the time to vindicate his "One Thrust" strategy, and a piffling port on the Belgian coast wasn't going to take that away from him.

Montgomery wasn't stupid, but, like Churchill, Patton, McArthur, Rommel and MANY others, was desperate to look good in history.

Monty wasn't stupid, but he was excessively land-minded. He was well aware that supply comes from ports. He just never thought much about how the supply got into the ports; in any case that was a navy problem. From the record, it really looks like he never thought about the need to clear the estuary at all.

Told it is important to clear the estuary by his superior officer, he ignored the warning. He (and the Allies in general) had suffered supply problems much of the way across France, and he (apparently) ignores the supply problem. I dunno if it means he was stupid, but gosh, "excessively land-minded" seems to be a rather tame description for this defect.
