Hi,

I am Dan and I'm taking over.

Thats all....

In case anyone is a little perplexed by the above, Dan (a/k/a U2) is the newest member of our 2x2 game. We welcome him aboard.

Ken (a/k/a Nomad), is no longer with us in this game, though we wish him the best of luck in his struggles against PzB and Mogami and he is of course still a member of the Brink of Disaster 3x3, along with Scott and I, here in the forum. Scott and I will now be squared off against Dan and Dan, representing the Allies.

Good luck to all and good hunting.

Hi pauk, thanks. [:)] I use MS Publisher. First create a "newspaper" page with all the text and pictures, group everything on the sheet together into one object, then choose "save as picture". This in effect transforms everything I just put on the page into a single JPEG image. So what you see in the AAR is actually just one JPEG image created out of many.

January 27, 1942 - Malaya

Posted: Wed Nov 23, 2005 6:55 am
by GaryChildress
I thought I'd take this opportunity to post a series of progress reports on how our game is going as of January 27, 1942.

Below is Malaya:

My forces have managed to sweep through the entire peninsula and now have some 28 Allied units bottled up in Singapore. Now it's a waiting game to try to run them out of supplies. I've been launching daily bomber raids against Singapore in an effort to expediate the process. So far I haven't sent any bombardment TFs in yet. I'm a little leary of getting my ships shot up by the big guns in the forts there.

My airstrikes are coming from Khota Bharu and Kuantan which have been built up into major bases. Bombers have been escorted by 1st and 59th fighter Sentais which are flying the Oscars. They've been making short work of the Buffalos, Hawks and Demons which my enemy has been using to defend the city (who says Oscar I's aren't any good?). He's still using Singapore as a base for bombers to strike my shipping in the South China Sea so I'm a little eager for Singapore's fall. Note also on the picture below that I have a sub blockade active around the city at the moment.

Borneo has been my supply lifeline for the first part of the war. I've been trying to keep oil flowing from Brunei to Kagoshima since Brunei's fall back in late December. I've managed to take most of the bases around the west and east sides of the Island, next stop Tarakan! Three NLFs are poised to invade the base--a total of over 100 assault points. I'm expecting to be up against a base force and a garrison battalion at the most. Now I just have to get my transports past those two Allied subs which you see in the middle of the right hand side of the screen shot.

The Philippines are probably making the slowest progress. I'm still stuck in Naga and San Marcelino and not making much progress on Luzon. Again I'm hoping to run my opponent out of supplies before making any serious attacks. I haven't attacked Clark Field as yet. I'm waiting on 38th Division to arrive from China to reinforce my efforts in the PI. I have managed to go base hopping around most of the unoccupied islands. Cagayan finally just fell this last turn, the last bastion of Allied forces on Mindanao. Just a little mopping up to do and Mindanao will be finished. Now I just need to finish off those stubborn Yanks in Luzon.

RE: January 27, 1942 - Dutch East Indies

The Dutch East Indies are a little ahead of my projected schedule. Batavia fell a couple days ago when most of the Allied forces pulled out after a stubborn fight. Now I'm chasing them to Bandoeng, the next city along the road to Soerabaja.

Most important of all is Palembang. I managed to capture it somewhat early on and am just beginning to get resources loaded up for a first shipment to Kagoshima. Palembang is probably one of the richest bases on the map so it was a welcome relief to get it early on. Now I just need to clear out Singapore of those pesky Allied bombers which are harrassing my ships. Next stop on the Island of Sumatra is Teloekbetoeng. A SNLF marched its way down there from Palembang and is set for a deliberate attack on the next turn. I'm hoping to have a quick victory there as I believe there is only a single base force defending it.

RE: January 27, 1942 - Burma

I managed to cross the Irrawaddy river to the east/south (whatever--technically south) of Mandalay and am marching on the city from there. This should save me from the excessive cassualties of a head on river crossing against the Allies entrenched in the city. Rangoon is in my posession. Once the straights of Malacca are safe to traverse I'll start picking up oil from the city. For some reason the oil doesn't seem to be flowing very well (if at all) over land to my industrial centers in Bankok and Saigon. So I intend on sending some tankers in at some point. I haven't massed much in the way of air power in the area. I know that the RAF and AVG are going to be scarce at this early stage in the war so I don't think I'll need too much air support. My biggest concern is to have some long range naval bombers based in the region to hit any enemy transports which try to supply Andaman Island or Akyab.

I've base hopped my way all the way down the coast of New Guinea and am now headed back up toward Sorong and Amboina. Biak and Hollandia are under construction as future major bases. From Biak I should be able to strike at Darwin with long range naval bombers. Unfortunately it's going to take some time before I can put any planes there. The base's air capacity is still at 0.

RE: January 27, 1942 - Wrapping Up

I would post a map of China except that very little has changed there since the outset of the war. My forces are currently contesting Wuhan, Changsha, Homan and Yenen and have met stubborn resistance. I have something planned to hopefully break the back of the Chinese defenses soon. Tune in next time and I may reveal my scheme.

And that wraps it up for my sector. I'm hoping Scott will follow suit on what progress he has made so far. Probably his most important progress so far was the sinking of the Lexington and Enterprise. The Americans probably have only one or two carriers in the Pacific at this time. That pretty much leaves the door wide open for the Axis.

Tune in next time...same Nip time, same Nip channel! [:)]

Good job Scott, I saw in the replay that 51st Aviation Rgt was among the casualties! My guess is that they were unloading at Noumea from the West Coast. That should dampen their ability to support the 4Es.

After my victory over the evil Allies near Noumea, I decided to retire to Lunga to rest my pilots.[:)] Next stop on the KB tour is to clean up the pests near our new base at Gili Gili. [:D] I plan to be in the area for the next couple of weeks. Units will be preping for the invasion of Townsville and or the eastern coast of Oz. Elsewhere in my realm. It looks like the units on Canton Island will be history soon. My reinforcements are too far out to make it. At this point in time I have to decide where to strike next. Johnston Island, Christmas Island, or Noume/Suva. The carrier Kaga is still in the Home Islands being repaired with 22 sys damage. She will hook up with the Junyo and head back to team up with KB.
