Note that adjective "catholic" is now more often used than "democratic" when someone is trying to describe what Poland is.

It is now, as it was before and will be in the near future. You say that as if "catholic" had some pejorative meaning. The position of church in Poland for the last 200 years or so was pretty strong, as it was lower levels of church that supported local patriotism during partitions. Hence it understandable that people tend to put equality sign between catholic and beeing a Pole, although it is not as simple. That is not to say that polish church didn't make its share of mistakes and dumb things. I tend to agree with opinions that the more mature polish state becomes, the longer the independence, the less power the church will possess. It is happenning even right now.

Church criticized in Poland? No way! Especially in public

The religion is often used by politicians to gather more votes. However reading papers I haven't noticed such special treatment - there are papers that support it, others that do not. I know that public television may look different but that medium is owned by whatever paty is in power so no surprise here. On the other hand looking at the internet boards you would think that clergy is murdered by thousands. Polish church takes a lot of criticism as elswhere in the world. Sometimes it is justified, sometimes not.

Well shoevarek you are misteakin i read about a public survay that only 40% of Polish "Catholics" belive in God... i think the survay shows that over 90% of the population is Catholic are wrong becouse i think most of the people don't care about religion and such they are goeing to the church or telling they are catholic becouse they think others will do the same... its a leftover of the commie days when every one ought to stand in line... but there are people who are not affreaid to tell what they are thinking even if its quite harsh for the otheres...
 
Last year when JPII was dying , i really felt sorry for him... but not becouse he was dying or becouse i thought he was a great men or something but becouse the Media made a 24H reality show called "Death of a Pope" every polish chanel was transmiting some things about him and such it was shown live where he is or something... honestly i didn;t liked him but no one deserves to make a Live TV show out of his death... and after he passed away for few days there was nothing in the TV just some crappy programs about JPII (lucky me i got Cable[:D]) i wounder if such thing happend in some other country in the world... becouse media were telling the dumb public that that is the same thing in every country in the world... well bull***t i was watching Die Hard on Pro 7 and they didn't even show the info that he was dead...

Well...

In USA , in criminal cases the standards high on guilty beyond a resonable doubt so OJ got off there but in Civil action it is "preponderance of evidence" and what evidence can be used is looser,
so OJ lost cause there was evidenc at least his actions contributed... he left the wife and comes back and shes dead... maybe alive if been there to stop it or dead himself [:'(]

As to Tobacco companys its been about them Hiding
facts and things they knew about the dangers and also how addictive really it was, THAT is where they were tripped up same as where while when I was 7 I lost hearing due to needed antibiotics, known to damage hearing... and i sued for it... know why... because the companys had withheld for years previous
knowledge of higher loss where they were used in COMBINATION vis a vis alone... so you see like in my case,i Tobacco suits its been about companys HIDING FACTS.

I won a settlement short of it about to go to Jury Btw.

Theres alot of companys out there that hide facts, I have my doubts about the safety of things like Splenda and other fake sugar sub's... they d cause effects in some people...are we really told all the companys know hummm?

Sooo don't really bash the US system, where wild awards occur, theres things about such as Tobacco,
where while users knew risks... The suits simply are about hidden facts that might have mattered in a person smoking in first place especially the facts coming out that nicotines really so much more addictive then they let on...

I didn't say that your system is wrong... as in every system some wierd things happen... its just totaly different the here in Europe... as For smoking if some one is dumb enogh to not know that smokeing is hazardus well that is his problem... and if he is dying of cancer that was his choice to tarts smoking at the first place... well the medicine company's case is a different thing as drugs are suppose to cure not to damage your halt and if they had some sideeffects people should be informed about them... You know what is comforting?

On the topic of Polish Catholics...I was in Paris last year wandering around on a Sunday morning...catholic churches all over the place..some sublimely beautiful...but empty, save for a few old ladies and some votive candles. Then I come to one square with a church and the churchgoers are spilling out of the packed building onto the sidewalks and courtyards...even more wierd...they are happy [:)]..they are all 20 or 30 somethings..the women are really hot and the men have tans and more muscle than the usual Parisian men. Those outside are quietly socializing and greeting each other. It looks like a Newport Beach bar scene displaced to Sunday morning without the music.

"What the $@#%?"..so I go over and can start to hear the Priest speaking over the loudspeakers...Russian?...no its Polish. Ahhh...THATS why Catholicism is so big in Poland
